What could happen to an ecosystem that had mice if cats were added to it?

The mice population would significantly decrease, especially if the cats were themselves at the top of the food chain, the apex predator, and so there was nothing keeping them in check. Feral cats have caused significant damage to bird and small mammal populations in Australia for instance, not only that but their presence also makes it impossible for re-introduction programmes to be carried out since the cats just hunt and kill the released animals.

The impact of adding more predators than an ecosystem can handle, due to rise in cat ownership and irresponsible breeders is partly why so many bird and small mammal species are in decline. It is one of the reasons why it is so important to spay or neuter a cat. Some areas have programmes in place for trapping and spaying feral cats as well, but this is a costly and difficult thing to do.

Ablack mouse is mated with a brown mouse and all offspring are black expalin full why no brown offspring are produce?

Genetically speaking, there are roughly 8 well known 'Brown' mice. They all have different genes, which creates different shades. You should probably find out what shade of brown this 'Brown' mouse in question is.

There is only one type of Black genetic colouring in mice.

Generally speaking, if we were just using the common Agouti brown mouse (wild colour) & crossed it to Black, then the entire litter should've resulted in Agouti mice. However, Agouti being represented by a dominant A-, & the Black being represented by a recessive AA, crossing A- to AA would result in an entire litter of Aa = Agouti carring Black.

If you crossed one of those offspring back to the Black parent, you would get Aa & AA in the litter, resulting in the litter being 50% black, 50% Agouti.

However, if the 'Brown' mouse wasn't Agouti, & was actually another brown called Chocolate (I'm serious), then crossing Black (which in this case will be BB) to Chocolate (bb) would result in an entire litter of Blacks carrying Chocolate (Bb) . If you crossed 2 of the offspring together, you would get a mix of Blacks & Chocolates.

NB: Black is a dominant gene to all other genes but Agouti.

Can a brother and sister mouse mate?

Yes, sexually mature sibling cats can and will mate with each other, if you let them. Letting them mate with each other is, of course, a very, very bad idea, as inbreeding among any species causes numerous birth defects and deformities. If you plan on keeping a male and a female that are brother and sister in the same household, you must get them neutered/spayed.

Furthermore, when a male cat becomes sexually mature, he will also try to mate with his mother, if she is around. Unlike humans -- well, most humans, anyway -- cats (and dogs) do not recognize that having sex with members of your family is a major no-no. So if you plan on keeping a mother cat and her son in the same household, at least one of them must be neutered/spayed.

Lets say that the allele for black fur B is dominant to the allele for white fur b in rats If you cross a black rat with a white rat and get offspring which are 6 black and 5 white what is the?

There are two base colors of rats, black and agouti. Agouti is the 'wild-type' rat, and it is designated with an A and is dominant. Black is the recessive form of agouti, and is designated with an a. So if you have a black rat, he is doubly recessive (aa). When you say 'white rat', I'm assuming you mean your rat is a pink-eyed-white or an albino. Rats can get this way in two different ways, either they are homozygous for albinism (cc) or they have so many other recessives that it washes out their color entirely. I am willing to bet it is an albino, as they are very common in pet stores.

The problem with albinos is that when a rat is homozygous for albinism (cc), it makes them albino no matter what their other genes are. This rat could have all kinds of recessives hidden or it could have none. Since you bred your two rats and got both black and 'white' babies, I would say that your black rat carries the albino gene 'c' and your albino rat does not carry any recessives that your black rat has, except for black of course (a). So your albino rat is technically a black rat with two copies of the albino gene. I know it seems kind of confusing =)
