How do you get kitty litter stains out of wood floors?

To remove kitty litter stains and scratches from a wood floor, depending on the severity of the stain, a sander may be your best bet. Sand down the spot, and refinish it with the stain of your choice. When shopping for kitty litter, read the label and find the one best suited for use on wood floors.

Is meow mix good for cats?

Meow Mix is a terrible quality food. The first ingredients are "Ground yellow corn, corn gluten meal". Cats are strict carnivores - they get all their nutrition and energy from Proteins and Fats in fresh meat. Therefore a food truly suitable for a cat are the ones with a very high, named-meat content. They should be labeled by source, such as: Chicken, Turkey, Rabbit, Lamb, Tuna, etc., as the first, or first couple, of ingredients.

Yellow Corn, Corn Gluten Meal and Soybean Meal are also one of the most common causes of allergies in foods, and provide no nutritional value to the cat.

Next there is: chicken by-product meal, soybean meal, beef tallow preserved with mixed tocopherols (source of Vitamin E), turkey by-product meal, brewers dried yeast

  • By-Product Meal are the leftover parts of the animal (lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, liver, blood, bone, some fatty tissue, and stomach and intestines). Not very good quality, but better than corn.
  • Salmon/Fish/Turkey Meal is terrible; its the rendered (moisture and fat removed) "waste" tissues of an animal. Very low quality which has little Protein in.
  • Soybean meal is soy that is added to cat food for the protein benefit, but because its a plant it gives barely any nutritional value whatsoever. The possible allergic reaction to soy makes it an ingredient to avoid. Many cat foods have banned any soy product being used in the their foods.
  • Beef Tallow is essentially rendered fat. This gives the food a bit of flavour.
  • Animal Digest is a broth made from unspecified parts of animals. The animals used can be obtained from any source, so there is no control over quality or contamination. This can include roadkill, animals euthanized at shelters, restaurant and supermarket refuse.

Other things in the list that are worrying: added color (red 40, yellow 5, blue 2, and other color), there is also added salt (too much salt over a period of time could seriously harm a cat).

Needless to say, Meow Mix is very poor quality which some ingredients could cause allergies.

There are foods that are completely free of these ingredients, with Named Meat sources at the first (or even first two or three) of the Ingredients list. Such high-quality foods are much healthier for a cat and much easier to digest. Cats are carnivores; they need meat-based protein, not plant-based protein. A cat or kitten will often overeat on lower quality foods because they are not getting all the nutrients they need, which can result in obesity and other health problems which can drastically shorten a cat's lifespan and overall quality of life.

What if your cat licks off the frontline?

Answer Cat can't lick off medYour cat can't lick off the medicine if you place it in the correct spot which is between his shoulder blades. Maybe you should talk to your vet also.

Another great spot is right at the base of the cat's skull. This is where my vet told me to apply it. If you have multiple cats, keep them separated for a few hours until the product is dry to keep them from grooming it off of each other. Though, the product has a very bitter taste so the cat may not want to lick that spot very much :)

Im frustrated here! People can have more than one cat, thus allowing A cat to lick the frontline of another cat even if it is placed correctly!!! Heads out of butts Please!!

People who say cats can't lick medicine off the shoulder blade area must have never watched a cat lick itself. They will lick their paw and wipe any area they cannot reach with their tongue. Then they lick the paw again, which has the Frontline on it, and repeat. Otherwise, cats would have dirty heads, and they don't. So, about the Frontline-----since every cat is going to lick it off, cats would be dying in the hundreds of thousands if this was a problem. Frontline is not systemically active. It collects in the oil glands and kills fleas and ticks, not cats. If a cat licks a whole lot quickly, the bad taste may cause increased salivation. You also see this drooling when pilling a cat with a bitter-tasting antibiotic. This does not mean the cat has been poisoned. Give it something to drink and it will be fine. I suppose there is the rare case of a cat having an allergic response to it. I once had a cat that scratched for a whole month after using Frontline, and I had to substitute Advantage. But other than that, don't worry about it, and don't use another pipette because you think the cat has licked it all off. I assure you that enough got into the cat's skin to work for a month.

Do cats need soft food or hard food?

Answer:

The best answer is a combination of both, using high quality foods. Some cats only eat when hungry so you could leave out a bowl of dry during the day, but this is not advisable. Dry food only can cause urinary tract problems.

Answer:

I had a cat that I fed canned (wet) food exclusively, and her jaw broke. The vet told me (after it was too late) that feeding the cat wet food exclusively caused calcium to leak out of the jawbone and can result in jaw fracture.

Answer:

I have NEVER heard of a cat breaking a jaw from their food. Bone can be weakened from an underlying problem such as severe dental disease, kidney disease or infection in the bone.

Actually, cats need soft wet food far more than they do dry. High quality wet food is high in Protein and Fat, and because cats are strict carnivores, they use these two nutrients as their primary source of energy. Moisture is also a very important factor as cats are designed to get their moisture from their food (a trait that has been passed down from their wild ancestors), and therefore have a low "thirst drive" and will not often seek out water on their own. Dry foods, because of their very low water content, can leave a cat dehydrated. A cat left dehydrated for any period of time can develop a Urinary Tract Infection, Cystitis or other such issues.

A high-quality wet, grain free, food should not give a cat diarrhoea, nor does would it not smell, give a cat bad breath/gas, nor will it make a cat fat.

Many dry food brands are not very good for your cat in the way of nutrition, and cats will often overeat because they are not getting all the nutrients they need. A lot of dry foods brands and low-quality wet foods are often packed with carbohydrates - "filler" in the way of corns and grains, none of which cats can digest. Because kibble is baked at such high temperatures, all the "natural" nutrition is destroyed. Wet food isn't processed to such high levels as this, so most of the nutrition stays intact.

You could feed both, but dry food only really serves as a convenience to us, and provides very little for your cat. There are some decent dry foods out there such as Orijen and Applaws with 80% Meat content in them and zero grains, but even that will never compare to the nutrition of canned food.

What are some adaptations of a cat?

cat adaptions could be their whiskers or their tail or eyes or feet something that has a reason to it like their whiskers are for to be able to see if they can fit in small gaps and so on.
Cats have evolved to be very efficient predators. They have been so successful that there are many species and can be found all over the world.

Here are some of the cat's adaptations:

  • A strong, flexible spine which can contract and stretch.
  • Strong muscles that are perfect for creeping up on prey then provide explosive bouts of speed.
  • Hooked retractable (with exception to the Cheetah) claws. Hooked claws help hold onto struggling prey or to grip tree branches to climb if in danger. Cats have retractable claws which keeps the claws sharp and free from damage when walking or at rest.
  • Specialized teeth that are designed to hold, kill and shear flesh off prey. A cat's teeth and strong jaws can even crunch down on bone if the bone is small enough.
  • Very good eyesight for hunting at dusk or dawn.

Are cats clean animals?

No, cats are very clean about their bodies. Most cats bathe (lick) their fur every day, several times a day. The main unclean thing about cats is their litter boxes, and that they walk in the litter box. Tracking litter through the house is annoying.

Can a cat have a reaction to flea medicine?

Yes, cat are just like humans in the way that they can have a reaction to anything you use on their bodies.

I would advise you not to use that flea medicine again, give you cat a couple of weeks, if it hasn't cleared up on it's on, take it to the vet. I would not use any more flea medicine in the meantime.

How should you prepare for a kitten?

There are so many things to do to prepare for a kitten! First of all: 1. Prepare yourself with supplies. There is nothing worse you can do than be unsupplied! Some supplies you will probably need are: - litter box - kitty litter - various toys --- jingling or crinkling balls, catnip, feathers on a stick, ect. - cat carrier [for easy vet-transportation] - cat toothpaste and shampoo for aiding hygeine [cats clean themselves, but sometimes they just downright need a good ol' bath!] although they scratch you to bits!!

- scratching post - plush cat bed - nail clippers [you will need to clip your cat's nails about once every two weeks unless [s]he is declawed.] - cat food - dry pellets, wet food in a can, and fresh water ALWAYS - cat food bowl & water bowl - collar & identification/rabies/other tags Also, be prepared with vet numbers, poison control numbers, anything you might need if your furry friend has an emergency! Not to mention, you should rid your house with everything that is poisonous to cats. [And keep cleaning items out of reach or in secured cabinets.] I also suggest you keep your kitten inside while s/he is still growing strength; especially if she is usually an indoor cat! Is it okay to put oil on Cats hair?

It depends on the oil. If a cat ingests a lot of cooking oil such as olive oil, then it is likely it will cause vomiting and diarrhoea. For non-edible oils such as motor oil, seeking immediate veterinary treatment is highly advisable as motor can be incredibly harmful.

If any oil is on the cat, bathe it asap.

However, there are oils that are beneficial in small doses and do not harm the cat at all:

Salmon oil and Evening Primrose oil are two oils that a cat can benefit greatly from. You can also add a weekly treat of oily fish such as sardines or mackerel (best in spring water), or even scraps of plain fatty meat (such as skin from a chicken) either raw or cooked, depending on what your cat prefers, as this will have the same effect.

Salmon oil contains omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. It is the omega 3 fatty acids that are so valuable in salmon oil. Salmon oil helps improve coat and skin quality and lubricate joints, which an elderly cat may benefit greatly from. It is advisable to use this instead of Cod Liver oil, as this contains a high level of Vitamin A which a cat can overdose on if fed too much.

Evening Primrose oil also contains vitamins and fatty acids that promote healthy supple skin and soft, glossy fur much like Salmon oil.

Both these oils can be found in most health shops and can be added to the cat's meal a couple of times a week. Only a few drops are needed each time.
