Well, they CAN make good pets, provided that you are willing to take care of them. They are quite picky, so wild-caught specimens are DEFINITELY out of the picture. Also, DO NOT buy an adult. Babies are always the right choice. This is because an adult chameleon has probably gotten used to the terrarium that it has been kept in its whole life, and when moved to a new tank, it will be generally unhappy with the tank change. Also, depending on the species of chameleon that you want, they need humidity usually somewhere within the 70%-100% range, which means misting MORE than once a day. TIP: To reduce your misting duties, putting a waterfall or a automatic mister can handle this well. Waterfalls will raise the humidity a little bit, but won't do the job for you. Also, they need practically a whole rainforests of tall plants to climb, (Live plants, plastic plants, and silk plants are all fine for chameleons.) Also, in general, chameleons aren't for handling, because they aren't social animals. If handling a chameleon, be very careful, because it may become aggresive and bite. So, it's best not to handle chameleons unless absolutely necessary. However, they are certain specimens that can become tame from handling, and even enjoy it. So the answer can be yes, if you are willing to take good care of this chameleon, then they can be interesting to watch, and will make great pets.
