Cheetahs

The Cheetah, Acinonyx jubatus, is a member of the cat family, Felidae. They hunt by sight and speed, rather than by stealth typical of other big cats. The fastest of all terrestrial animals reaching speeds of over 110 km/hour (60 mph) in short bursts, it is the only cat that cannot completely retract its claws.

What if a cheetah lived in the Arctic how would it survive?

The cheetah would basically have to become an entirely different animal to live in the Arctic.

Cheetahs rely on a very sleek and muscular body in order to run fast. In the Arctic, they would need to put on body mass and layers of fat in order to stay warm enough.

Cheetahs hunting methods would not be efficient, since they would need to conserve energy. They would have to rely more on brute strength than on speed. Their muscle types would have to change.

The cheetahs colors and pattern would be a disadvantage, seeing prey would see them coming for quite a ways. They would have to develop a different fur type as well. Their coat is made for shedding heat, but it would need to hold it in instead.

Why can cheetahs only run fast to catch their prey?

A cheetah is built for high speed, extremely long legs, flexible spine, stiff long tail, light weight, huge heart to pump blood, nostrils to breathe at extreme speeds, small aerodynamic head, claws that don't retract, a leopard is indeed a good climber, but can also run 40+ mph, jump 30 ft across a gorge, 15 ft straight up, scare of 4 cheetahs from a kill, kill an adult male eland (they weigh up to 2000lbs, average leopard 150lbs for a large male), have been seen to drag a young girrafe up a tree, and one individual killed over 400 people in Asia in the early 1900's, they are often considered the most adaptable, secretive, successful(over half a million in Africa, that's more than all other big cats combine) cunning, intelligent, and versatile of all big cats.

Who is stronger cheetah or leopard?

Leopards are stronger physically. They are bigger and tend to be more aggressive because they can more easily defend themselves. Cheetahs are built for speed rather than strength and when faced with a fight or flight reaction, they prefer to run off than risk being injured and losing the ability to hunt because of an injury.

How long do cheetahs live?

In the wild cheetahs can live from 10 to 15 years, but in captivity they live for 15 to 20 years.

The average life span of a cheetah in the wild is 12 - 14 years. However, if held captive, they can live up to 17 years

Cheetahs can live up to twelve to fourteen years. In captivity they live up to seventeen years.

Cheetahs usually live 15-17 years!!

Cheetah's can live up to 12 years or so in the wild. They are known to live upto 20 years in captivity (In Zoos). The lifespan is much shorter in the wild because, as they grow older, their speed comes down and their ability to hunt comes down. As a result they die much earlier in the wild.
Typically around seven, but figures as high as fourteen or fifteen have been reported.

What is the height of a female cheetah?

The adult cheetah weighs from 35 to 72 kg. Its total head and body length is from 110 to 150 cm. The tail alone can measure 60 to 84 cm in length. Cheetahs are 66 to 94 cm tall at the shoulder. Males tend to be slightly larger than females and have slightly bigger heads, but there is not a great variation in cheetah sizes and it is difficult to tell males and females apart by appearance alone.

They are well adapted to where they live......cheetah's are the worlds fastest mammamls. They have slim and arodyamanic body in order to help them catch prey and their skin enables them to be well camouflaged. They have special claws and paws to give them traction in the semi desert conditions in the savannas.
