What are facts about cheetahs?
Cheetahs:
Binomial name is: Acinonyx Jubatus;
Are of the Felidae family, of the Carnivora order
Are the fastest land mammal, and can run about 60 mph;
Do not have spots on their undersides;
Are endangered due to habitat loss and their weak adaptability;
World population is about 12,000 today;
Are gender dimorphic, males having larger heads, and being slightly larger, overall, than females;
Can live about 12 years in the wild, and 17years, rarely 20, in captivity;
Live in relatively flat, open land with an abundance of prey herbivores;
Cannot roar; but can growl and yowl, and make chirping calls to their young;
Are the weakest of all the big cats;
Have black dashes from their eyes down their noses that reduce glare;
Are tall and evolved for speed, with whip-like spines; and long, slim, muscular legs;
Can run at full speed only for short distances. Normal sprints are about 100 meters or less;
Gestation period is 90 to 95 days;
Are relatively poor climbers;
Have flattened tails, spots, merging to 4 to 6 end rings, used for balance and quick directional changes;
Can purr during both, inhalation and exhalation, like domestic cats;
Rarely drink water, gaining needed moisture from their prey;
Hunt daily
Are, from head to base of tail, about 4.3-4.9 ft long;
Tails are about 2-2.5 ft. long;
Weigh about 75-150 lbs;
Achieve top speed in about 3 seconds
Cover almost 33 feet with each stride at top speed;
Males tend to live in small groups while females are more solitary;
Favorite prey are gazelles and other small antelopes;
Diets also include hares, rodents, game birds, and occasionally, larger prey like zebras;
Are almost exclusively daylight hunters;
Stalk prey from a distance;
Select prey that are young, old, injured, or otherwise weak animals.
In earlier times, were found throughout Africa;
Now, are only found in less than one third(20-30%) of the continent;
Mate at any time, throughout the year;
Have litters as large as eight, but usually only 2-5 cubs are born;
Cubs are born with long grey fur and manes, which disappear later;
Sometimes capture prey alive so their cubs can practice hunting skills;
Genetically separated from their closest relatives about 6 or7 million years ago;
they are really fast
Who does a cheetah compete with for water?
The cheetah competes with all the other animals in the area for water - elephants, zebras, antelope, lions, leopards, etc.
Why do cheetahs have to rest after running?
They expend a great deal of energy when they run, their body temperature rises and they have an oxygen deficit. They must rest, sometimes nearly an hour, after a run.
How do cheetahs use camouflage?
Cheetahs use their speed and camouflage to hunt prey. Gazelle's, Impala and Springbok are the usual prey species as they are around the size that a cheetah can catch and kill.
They lie hidden in the grass and move close to its unsuspecting prey. When they are around 100 to 200 meters near the prey, they pick up a burst of speed and tackle the prey. They go for the throat thereby suffocating the prey.
What is the cheetah's botanical name?
Cheetahs are not plants; therefore, they do not have "botanical" names.
What if a cheetah lived in the Arctic how would it survive?
The cheetah would basically have to become an entirely different animal to live in the Arctic.
Cheetahs rely on a very sleek and muscular body in order to run fast. In the Arctic, they would need to put on body mass and layers of fat in order to stay warm enough.
Cheetahs hunting methods would not be efficient, since they would need to conserve energy. They would have to rely more on brute strength than on speed. Their muscle types would have to change.
The cheetahs colors and pattern would be a disadvantage, seeing prey would see them coming for quite a ways. They would have to develop a different fur type as well. Their coat is made for shedding heat, but it would need to hold it in instead.
What is the most interesting thing about cheetahs?
if your far away from them your not cause they have good smellier
also they deadly bit you
Yes they can, although they're claws aren't designed for it.
See related link..
Yes it can dont you already know that? :O
Why can cheetahs only run fast to catch their prey?
A cheetah is built for high speed, extremely long legs, flexible spine, stiff long tail, light weight, huge heart to pump blood, nostrils to breathe at extreme speeds, small aerodynamic head, claws that don't retract, a leopard is indeed a good climber, but can also run 40+ mph, jump 30 ft across a gorge, 15 ft straight up, scare of 4 cheetahs from a kill, kill an adult male eland (they weigh up to 2000lbs, average leopard 150lbs for a large male), have been seen to drag a young girrafe up a tree,and one individual killed over 400 people in Asia in the early 1900's, they are often considered the most adaptable, secretive, successful(over half a million in Africa, that's more than all other big cats combine) cunning, intelligent, and versatile of all big cats.
Who is stronger cheetah or leopard?
Leopards are stronger physically. They are bigger and tend to be more aggressive because they can more easily defend themselves. Cheetahs are built for speed rather than strength and when faced with a fight or flight reaction, they prefer to run off than risk being injured and losing the ability to hunt because of an injury.
Pale yellow background, black dappled splotches over its back and sides, with a largely white belly and neck ruff.
The cheetah also has a yellow-y brown color as well as black spots down its legs.
for grown up cheetahs 2-4 feet long babyies is 1 foot long
In the wild cheetahs can live from 10 to 15 years, but in captivity they live for 15 to 20 years.
The average life span of a cheetah in the wild is 12 - 14 years. However, if held captive, they can live up to 17 years
Cheetahs can live up to twelve to fourteen years. In captivity they live up to seventeen years.
Cheetahs usually live 15-17 years!!
Cheetah's can live up to 12 years or so in the wild. They are known to live upto 20 years in captivity (In Zoos). The lifespan is much shorter in the wild because, as they grow older, their speed comes down and their ability to hunt comes down. As a result they die much earlier in the wild.
Typically around seven, but figures as high as fourteen or fifteen have been reported.
in the wild,12 years in captivity,20 years
How long do cheetahs live in captivity?
usually 12 human years of life but they live up to 20 human years capitivity.
cheetahs live 12 14 years in the wild i dont know how long tyhe live in captivity
about 5 years
What is the height of a female cheetah?
The adult cheetah weighs from 35 to 72 kg. Its total head and body length is from 110 to 150 cm. The tail alone can measure 60 to 84 cm in length. Cheetahs are 66 to 94 cm tall at the shoulder. Males tend to be slightly larger than females and have slightly bigger heads, but there is not a great variation in cheetah sizes and it is difficult to tell males and females apart by appearance alone.
Description of what an area is like?
Dear Sir/Madam,
I would like to apply for the position of Part-time Sales Assistant which I saw advertised in the Guardian
How are cheetahs adapted to where they live?
They are well adapted to where they live......cheetah's are the worlds fastest mammamls. They have slim and arodyamanic body in order to help them catch prey and their skin enables them to be well camouflaged. They have special claws and paws to give them traction in the semi desert conditions in the savannas. They also have tear lines which start from the inside of each eye to the mouth which helps block out the direct sunlight which aids them while hunting and helps them see long distances.
