How do you bypass the ignition switch on a 1987 Camaro to start the car?
Hi Ed, The normal way to hot wire an auto ignition, has always been to clip a wire to the positive-post on the battery and then run the lead to the positive-post on the ignition-coil. Then, if you have a remote starter switch, simply crank the engine and it will start. If you do not have a remote starter switch, take a short screw-driver, (or something metal), and cross the two posts on the starter solenoid and crank the engine to start. To shut the ignition hotwire off, simply disconnect at the battery. Thats the simple and easy way. Of course, if you're gonna really fix the thing, you'll need to get into the main ignition switch, etc, etc,...understand? Hot-wireing is just a short term thing! Also, make sure you have the proper AUTHORITY to do all of this!

A visual check of the oil can tell sometimes. Oil should not look brown, milky or have bubbles in it. Sometimes excessive smoke from the exhaust can be a sign. Excessive coolant consumption and a lack in power might be another sign. Another more involved way is a compression check on all the cylinders. That will tell you if there is a leak from the combustion chamber and which cylinder/cylinders.

The actual switch is located on the top side of the steering column above the brake pedal. it is an electrical & mechanical switch unit changing mechanical action to electrical signal. it mounts to the column with a couple screws or nuts and usually needs to be adjusted via elongated mount holes to a proper fit. this can be achieved by turning the key tumbler assembly to the start position and sliding the switch closer to the steering wheel until the starter engages.
Why is your 96 Chevy Camaro brake pedal hard?
Most likely the vacuum has been disconnected from the power booster. ie. a line is off (engine should run rough) or the plastic check valve is defective. You should hear a sucking sound from the hose connecting manifold vacuum to the brake booster. repair the leak and you should be OK. Its always possible the booster has failed. that is uncommon but expensive. Good luck

because it's heavy, guzzles fuel, doesn't really go fast, doesn't stop too well, and doesn't like corners much either. Build quality was awful, dealership support was intermittent at best, insurance premiums were high, safety features were minimal, and it had a bad habit of turning into a fireball when lightly rammed from behind. All round, it was a bit of a design failure.
