This post is for all of us with 2007 and younger trucks who installed the K&N or similar CAI and found that the kit does not delete the resonator box that sits on top of the engine. After trading emails back and forth with K&N tech support, who told me that the resonator box was not deleted because of excessive noise. Excessive noise may be a problem for the luxury car and suv owner, however after doing this mod I have not noticed any excessive noise as described.
Materials you will need:
(1) 3" ID pvc pipe Lowes sells it in 2ft length $17.86
(1) .5" open threaded nipple $4.69 for black...you can pick up steel or brass at your choosing
(1) 3" ID rubber connector $ 5.96
(1) Spray paint color of your choosing, I picked up the one for grills $6.79
(1) can of PVC threading glue $4.49
1ft of ¾ heater hose $ 1.10
(2) ¾ to 1" hose clamps $.50
Total: $41.39
Tools you will need:
10 mm wrench or socket
Hacksaw
Ruler or measuring tape
Flat head screw driver or 8mm nut driver
If you have the luxury of a drill
If not then use a steak knife and railroad spike to form the hole for the threaded nipple.
This is a two day process depending on whether you want to paint the tube.
Step 1
Measure the width of the resonator box from the inlet pipe to the throttle body. (Mine was 8.25")
Step 2
Cut the PVC pipe the length required
Step 3
Form the hole for the nipple using either a drill or some other cutting utensil
Step 4
Apply pipe thread glue to the end of the nipple that you will be screwing into the pipe.
Step 5
Screw the nipple into the pipe, and apply more glue around the base, to minimize the risk of vacuum leaks.
Step 6
Paint the tube whichever color you like.

Disconnect the battery

Remove the resonator box by loosening the hose clamp at the throttle body, at the inlet pipe, and remove the two mounting bolts on the right side of the motor.

Take the house coupler off of the CAI intake tube and place it on the throttle body (the plumbing hose couplers are too wide and hit the #1 cylinder coil)

Place your pipe into the coupler on the throttle body with the nipple pointing towards the back.

Place the plumbing coupler on the CAI intake tube, and connect the PVC tube to the coupler.
Step 12
Tighten all screws.
Step 13
Measure the distance from the nipple to the crank case vent, cut hose appropriate length.
Step 14
Attach hose to nipple and crankcase vent and tighten.

Reconnect battery, and start engine, listen for any leaks and fix as necessary.
As soon as I can take some pics I will post the finished project. I have not noticed any performance gains/losses with this mod, as I just did it today. I just figured that a tube would offer less air resistance than the resonator box, as the resonator box has 6 side channels that air can flow before it reaches the throttle body.

The starter motor is located under the car. There is three bolts holding it to the side of the transmission. There is also a bracet being held on by the bolt which is connected to the E.G.R. tubes. Just undo the the three nuts and pull the E.G.R. bracet off then undo the power line to the starter and you should have the starter in your hands. Before you do anything though disconnect the + batterie terrminal.
