Throwing yourself on top of a 6yo instead of punishing him for behaving badly wont lead anywhere except peace for the moment. Pick him up and put him in a boring empty room for a few minutes until he calms down. You wont need to hold him down. Whenever he tries to come out he's put back in. Give him warnings first but if he hits first just carry him there/lead him there. Being bored and having nothing to do is actually a good punishment and they have time to think and calm down. Make sure he knows why he's there and when he's calm you can talk face to face and he can apologize.
