The shortest route is counter intuitive:

I74 to Indianapolis

I70 to St. Louis

I44 to Oklahoma City

I40 to Albuquerke

(This route has toll roads)

There are several alternate routes to avoid tolls and some heavy traffic areas but would be longer in distance, but not much difference in time. Taking I71 to Lousville then I64 to St. Louis would be marginally longer and would bypass Indianapolis and Terra Houte. It also has an approach to St. Louis that is regularly less congested.

To avoid tolls one could remain on I70 through Missouri to Kansas City then take US50 to US 56 and follow US 56 all the way to Albuquerque. This adds only a few miles but it is a standard highway, not an interstate. Depending on conditions it could add a significant amount of time to the journey. But all things being equal it would only add about an hour to the trip.

The Southern Route might be an option during winter to avoid dangerous weather (ice/snow) but that could add several hours to the trip time. I71 to Louisville to I65 to Nashville to I40 all the way to Albuquerque. This is over 100 miles longer and goes though several MAJOR heavy traffic zones including Nashville, Memphis and Dallas.
