Influenza A virus subtype H1N1 treatments?
Treatment is very simple acually, most people can get cured by taking Tamiflu pills. But with the pills I WARN YOU that if you DO take them you will get sick depending on who you are. Personally when I took the pills I got sick either way if i took them woth or without food. The tamiflu pills are about 2 centimeters long and about 1 centimeter wide. But also if you are like me, since I train in athletics for many things, which are all sorts of team sports such as volleyball cheer and soccer, for some reason my immune system fought the H1N1 virus off before i got the pills. The reason I got the pills was to stop the virus from coming back.

Is moving around better when you have the flu?
You need to keep warm and stay indoors not moving around.
What is the risk of getting a TB shot instead of Flu shot?
If you are getting the vaccination by a trained professional, it is unlikely, although not impossible. Medication errors are more common in hospitalized patients than those receiving outpatient medications and immunizations. If you are not sure of what you received or question that an incorrect substance was used in your case, you should contact the location where you received the vaccine. They must keep a very accurate record of these, usually by state law.
Can the baby be affected at 18 weeks if you have the flu or are vomiting and have diarrhea?
You should call your doctor if you haven't been able to keep anything down for 24 hours.
This is nothing to worry about. A woman's body is AMAZING! It takes care of the baby before it takes care of you :) There are many women that have extreme morning sickness and their babies are just fine. However, if you are having symptoms that are more severe than regular flu symptoms or if you "just don't feel right", then do call your doctor.

Can hospitals require flu shots for employees?
I would think they could. I know that certain jobs require certain health requirements. I am a teacher and I am required to have a TB test every 2 years to keep teaching. In some states teachers are also required to have hepatitis shots to teach. I did the shots, but wasn't required to. With the shadow of a flu epidemic I would think a hospital would require a flu shot to be sure that their employees didn't spread the flu or get it.
New York State has just recently (late September 2009) enacted a mandate that all health care workers must take flu shots. It was the first state to make them mandatory.no the flumist is still available but should only be taken by health ppl age 2-49
Can flu shots be given in the Gluteal area?
They can be, but usually aren't. This is mostly because many people get red and tender tissue at the site of the injection for a few days after the shot. It is much easier to deal with that soreness in a location like the arm that doesn't need to be sat upon.
What to do for a sore spinal cord fever and sore throat?
See a doctor to be sure this is not a severe infection involving the nervous system, like meningitis or encephalitis. If there is a high fever and sore or stiff neck it could be quite serious and need urgent care.
A nickname some have used for the Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever.
Does the current Novel H1N1 Swine Flu contain elements of avian flu?
Yes. It does contain genetic material of Avian Flu in addition to three types of swine flu and also human flu viruses. (Avian flu is also called "Bird Flu"). When a virus mutates like this one did in pigs with five different genomes in the virus, it is called a quintuple reassortant (also known as reassortment) virus.
The three types of swine flu genetic material in the A-H1N1/09 pandemic flu are American swine flu, Asian swine flu, and European swine flu.
Why it is difficult to treat viral disease?
It is difficult to treat viral disease because antibiotics do not work against viral diseases and also antiviral can be given but they are no really used because of adverse side effects.
Yes, those could be symptoms of influenza, but without a physician examination and lab testing there is no way to know for sure if it is the swine flu or seasonal flu.
A quote from CDC Information (see link below in related link section):
"If you live in areas where swine influenza cases have been identified and become ill with influenza-like symptoms, including fever, body aches, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, or vomiting or diarrhea, you may want to contact their health care provider, particularly if you are worried about your symptoms. Your health care provider will determine whether influenza testing or treatment is needed."
The clinics and doctors' offices are very busy screening for the potential 2009 Swine Flu in patients, if you have the above described circumstances and symptoms, telephone your health care provider for advice. Do not go to the health care provider location unless you telephone first. If you go unnecessarily, you risk exposure to the virus at the office when you may not have had it in the first place.
The only way to be sure it is the 2009 Swine flu is lab testing. If testing is advised by your care provider, the CDC describes the appropriate tests as:
"... a respiratory specimen would generally need to be collected within the first 4 to 5 days of illness (when an infected person is most likely to be shedding virus). However, some persons, especially children, may shed virus for 10 days or longer. Identification as a swine flu influenza A virus requires sending the specimen to CDC for laboratory testing." Update: there are now "field test kits" that the CDC has provided regionally for providers and labs to be able to do preliminary testing to detect the presence of Novel H1N1 cases.
When to seek emergency care according to CDC:
"If you become ill and experience any of the following warning signs, seek emergency medical care.
In children emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include:
* Fast breathing or trouble breathing
* Bluish skin color
* Not drinking enough fluids
* Not waking up or not interacting
* Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
* Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough
* Fever over 101 F (or fever with a rash)
In adults, emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include:
* Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
* Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
* Sudden dizziness
* Confusion
* Severe or persistent vomiting"
How does a flu nasal spray work?
A nasal flu vaccine is a mist that is inhaled, rather than an injection. One gentle spray per nostril is enough to be effective. The vaccine delivers a live, but extremely weakened, virus which causes the recipient's immune system to develop antibodies to the virus. If that person is later exposed to the flu, those antibodies can help prevent the virus from causing an infection. Many people believe that the flu vaccine, whether inhaled or injected, can cause illness. It's true that it can cause some short term mild symptoms but it cannot cause illness. Also, it is still possible to get the flu, even after receiving the vaccine since new strains can develop at any time.
Why do you lose your appetite when taking cold and flu tablets?
Most cold and flu tablets contain pseudoephedrine, which is a stimulant and may cause you to lose your appetite.
pseudoephedrine is extracted from these tablets to make methamphetamine, most people who use meth don't eat much which is why drug addicts are usually skinny (also they most likely spend their food money on drugs, good thing they don't have an appetite...)

How many were infected with influenza in 1818?
I don't think it would be possible to find any real statistics of flu infections in 1818, but I am thinking you meant 1918, a year that there really was a flu pandemic. In 1918, an estimated amount of 500 million people worldwide were infected and 50-100 million of them were killed.
How many cases of Swine Flu have there been in Vermont?
No one has a good count any more. There may be some ongoing cases in limited locations around the world, including in Vermont. However, the specifics and counts of cases are no longer being tracked by CDC, WHO, the US states, and most other countries, now that the pandemic has been declared over. Influenza cases are monitored, but specific H1N1/09 counts (and the lab tests needed to isolate the specific virus to be able to count them correctly) aren't being done. Influenza cases in general are monitored, but statistics are not being kept for H1N1/09 cases separately from other influenza types for reporting any longer in the post pandemic phase.
