The computer networking revolution began in the early 1960s and has led us to today internet technology. The Internet was first invented by DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) for military purposes, and then expanded to the purpose of communication among scientists. In 1957, the launch of Sputnik had spurred the U.S to create a network for communications links between military and university computers that would not be disrupted by bombs or enemy spies. In order to solve the problem, in 1968 DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) made contracts with BBN (Bolt, Beranek and Newman) to create ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network).

What is the startup code that is run when a computer is first powered on?

The bootstrap.

When a computer is first switched on, it runs code held semi-permanently on a dedicated chip, called a Basic Input Output System. BIOS.

This code checks that everything is in order, memory, CPU, hard drives, floppy drives, time and date, mouse and keyboard.

If all checks are OK it will then try and boot up the operating system held on the hard drive.

Parameters in the BIOS can be altered by the user, such as time and date and which drive holds the operating system.

The code is held, even when there is no power.

Who was father of DVD?

John Logie Baird has been called the father of television as it is easy to see that he produced the very first working television system in the world. He did his development work in his own building with his own resources and with his own hands.

The development of CDs and later, DVDs were both commercial developments by a group of companies. The DVD was the result of years' of negotiation between manufacturers, Hollywood production companies and development companies.

Perhaps the closest we can come to finding a father for the DVD is to put forward either Sony or Philips as candidates, being the original companies who began the development of the DVD. It will be hard to select one or the other so we should probably settle for both having shared parenting of the disc format.
