The best way i have found to do this is to setup a sever dedicated to Logs and perfomace moniter. Set it up to moniter other servers in the Domain Remotly. This usually reduses Overhead in the servers and is alot easier to do some realtime monitering and check Logs

Resolution problem - On start up press F5 before the welcome screen and select VGA Logging from the list - then once loaded restart as usual.
Driver Problem - On start up press F5 before the welcome screen and select safe mode. If you manage to log in to windows go to start -> control panel -> System -> Hardware manager -> Right click on your graphics card and uninstall then restart.
Hard Disk Repair - take it to a local computer shop or attempt to re install with the Cd's that came with the PC (you will lose your data).

Is the resolution rate the number of times one screen or frame is built in one second?
That would be "screen refresh" or 60hz for example.
Resolution is the amount of "Pixels" or dots you can see. It would be similar to taking a "Normal" picture in a camera and taking a "High resolution" picture.
The smaller the number, 640x480 the less pixels, pictures would not be as good looking. The larger the number, 1920x1080 the more pixels. The picture would have better detail.
Kinda like the difference between watching a HD movie on a normal tube TV and watching the same movie on an HDTV.

On windows XP go to the start button, run and type in msconfig. At the top of the window there are tabs choose the tab that says start-up. Uncheck everything it will not harm your computer. Click apply then ok. It will tell you to reboot your computer when it reboots a window will appear that states "You are using selective start-up" there is a box in the middle of the window that says "Do not show this messge again" click that. It could be that you comp bottom got to hot. Did you feel the bottom? My gateway laptop shuts down when the bottom gets to hot. Its annoying but a good reminder to let the air circulate more. If you let it get too hot for a while it will burn out. Like my old laptop did.
