Explain how cold boot different from a warm boot?

Warm boot: not all the processes shut down. It does not take as long for a warm boot and many times users do not have to be off the system. Cold boot: Everything shuts down. There are shutdown scripts which shut down all the processes (so nothing is missed). All users must be off the system. Then, you run the startup script (check for errors). Test the system to make sure the changes you made took effect and there's no problems. Warm boot example: Configurable parameter was changed and the documentation states in order for it to take effect, a warm boot is required. In the documentation for that particular system, a warm boot's criteria will be listed. Cold boot example: Operating system upgrade on the server.

Calculating Formulas:

In Windows, all 32-bit applications (in this case calculator) are given a common floating-point environment. In calculator, this environment is used to calculate formulas to output a correct algorithm sum concerning the input formula.

Why an understanding of the binary number system is important to IT professionals?

Computers do most of their calculations in binary, internally.

The binary system consists of 1's and 0's only, which are used in computer technology to signify "on" or"off", the only possible states for each of the millions of transistors operating the machine.

What is need to boot a computer?

Applying power to a computer's circuitry, normally by depressing the "On" switch, gives the microprocessor the voltage it, and its associated clock circuits, need to function. After any internal self-initialization the processor might do, it loads a fixed address onto its address bus, determined by the manufacturer, and starts reading instructions from memory at that address, incrementing its instruction counter as it goes. In small microcontroller circuits, that may be the end of the story; it just keeps reading and executing instructions from ROM (Read-Only Memory) until the program ends (if ever), or some unexpected interrupt or exception occurs which halts it.

In the case of modern desktop computers, however, typically the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is the ROM which is addressed at initialization, and this can consist of many megabytes of initialization and test code until some means of long-term storage (disk, USB flash device, CD- or DVD-ROM) is loaded. This will typically have several stages of loaders, where the first 512-byte sector has code which knows where to fetch a secondary loader; eventually a loader is capable of reading the filesystem of the disk well enough to locate the operating system itself.

The operating system then typically has its own test and initialization routines to go through, and while some OSes such as Windows may by default hide all this behind a "splash screen", others like some Linux distributions will display screen after screen of quickly-scrolling information letting you know exactly what's going on. Once it has mapped all the computer's circuitry: memory (RAM), disks, sound cards, and other hardware to its internal representations of these devices, it typically displays a login prompt. The computer is now said to be "booted": lifted up by its own bootstraps.

In the case of a "turnkey" or "kiosk" system, the login may be bypassed, and the system might not be considered "booted" until it starts executing the process for which it was designed. This would be the case at info-kiosks at airports, or point-of-sale (POS) machines (modern cash registers) in stores.

Can you recover a letter under notepad if the computer reboots?

No. Some programs, such as MS-Word, save information automatically, every few minutes; if you use Google Docs, information is saved online every few seconds. But Notepad doesn't have such a feature. Some of the Notepad substitutes may have such an option. Note that in general, Notepad is a very limited program, so you may want to get a Notepad substitute for other reasons as well, not just for autosaving. For example, Notepad++, while NOT having autosave (at least in the version I am currently using), allows you to open multiple windows, search among multiple windows, allows multiple undos, and in general has a neater editing interface - for example, Ctrl-Backspace works, to delete a word to the left, whereas in Notepad, this doesn't work.

What is meaning raw facts?

A raw fact is a fact without context. The fact is true but its meaning can be different when placed in context.

Example: 'George is 16 years old' is a fact but George could be a person or a dog or a ship. The context is important because if George is a dog then this context 'means' that George is old. If George is a person then this context 'means' George is young.

Therefore without the context the fact is 'raw'.
