The first Native American inhabitants of Connecticut were members of Algonkian tribes. Adriaen Block, a Dutch explorer, was the first European in that area. The first European settlement was a British colony.

People went to Connecticut in order to find rich and fertile farmland.

The name of the first settlement in Connecticut was "New Hope", which is now known as "Hartford".

not as cold as the new england colony but not as warm as the southern colony but that climate was good enough for the growing seasons. The climate in New York during 1600-1700 was between hot and cold. It was sort of like it is now but just a bit warmer.

Roger Sherman was a member of the Continental Congress, he helped draft the Constitution and the Articles of Confederation. He was also responsible for the Great Compromise (Connecticut Compromise). He had held positions in the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government for Connecticut. He was also in charge of the New Haven committees of correspondence.

Some negative aspects of the Connecticut colony included conflicts with Native American tribes over land, such as the Pequot War in 1637. Additionally, the colony's government was initially exclusive and limited to male property owners, leading to issues of inequality and lack of representation for other groups. The colony also struggled with religious intolerance, as Puritanism was the dominant religion and dissenters faced persecution.

The reason Connecticut was founded was to escape the government of Massachusetts Bay Colony because people thought that less power was to be given to the government and that all white men could participate in government(man that was a long sentence). Hope this helps. The founder was Thomas Hooker.

If you lived in Colonial Times you would eat a lot of corn. If you lived by the sea you might eat lobsters, clams or other sea food. People who lived inland would eat rabbits, squirrels, bear, deer, and other wild game. Most people also grew fruits and vegatables.

In Colonial Times people drank a lot of different drinks than we do now. You could drink water, milk, cider,or beer. Even little children drank beer.

What you ate and drank depended on how rich or poor you were. It could also depend on how much game there was in the area you were living in.

There is a popular misconception that the Pilgrim Fathers started their historic journey from Plymouth in England.

Well they didn't - they set off in search of religious freedom from the Immingham docks in Lincolnshire England.

Here in Immingham you will find in pilgrims park near saint Andrew's church the actual memorial that commemorates the occasion.

due to the bad weather when they left Immingham's dock the women and children of the ship took shelter at the church. here they were later arrested (for rebelling against taxation and religion by leaving) and the ship had to set sail without them.

However due to the uproar from the town the children were released and were aloud to travel and reunite with their fathers. They settled in Holland for a while, which they intended, but then left for America here the pilgrim fathers created a place of religious freedom and no corruption.

"From this creek the Pilgrim Fathers first left England in 1608 in search of religious liberty. The granite top stone was taken from Plymouth Rock Mass and presented by the Sulgrave Institution of USA. This memorial was erected by the Anglo-American Society of Hull 1924".

Somtime after Roger Williams founded the colony of Rhode Island, Thomas Hooker, another Puritan Minister, founded the colony of Connecticut. The followers who came from Massachusetts with Hooker were originally Puritans, practicing a modified form of Puritanism from that of the Plymouth Colony, one more tolerant and freer than the Plymouth version of the theology. After many years, several modifications, and the help of Ralph Walldo Emerson, the theology morphed into what is very much like the values of the present day Unitarian Universalist Church in the United States.

In the Philadelphia Convention of 1787 this compromise was put forward to end the conflict between the big states and the small states, It provided for the bicameral legislative branch that we have today, giving the states equal representation in the Senate and proportional representation in the House of Representatives.

The Connecticut Compromise arose from two plans: The Virginia Plan and The New Jersey Plan. The Virginia Plan proposed that the members of the legislature should be allocated by state population and the New Jersey Plan proposed that state legislature seats should be allocated without regard to population, to make it more representative for smaller states. Fusing these two plans, The Connecticut Compromise allocated seats in the Senate equally among states, allowing two Senators in Congress per state while allocating seats in the House of Representative according to population of states, but at least one per state.

The smaller states benefited, because the smaller states had no use for slaves. Due to the fact that they didn't have any crops or enough property.

Vermont was originally claimed by the Frenchman Jacques Cartier as he explored the St. Lawrence River Valley. It was later claimed by the colonies of New York and New Hampshire. As settlement of Vermont increased, the people of Vermont decided that they wanted to be controlled by neither New York, or New Hampshire, and they declared themselves an indepedent republic in 1777. Eventually, Vermont asked to join the union, and in 1791 Vermont was approved as the 14th U.S. state. =-)
