Conquistadors

The year of 1519 is an important date in history in that Hernando Cortes' was set foot into the Aztec Empire in today's Mexico. He began to end the empire and by this act began the full efforts of Spain to conquer a large part of the New World. Up to that point the Spanish explorers had only staked out territories in Cuba.

Hernando Cotes wanted gold and riches because: gold was of high value. He belived that he could obtain it through the exploration of the Northenmost South America (where the axtecs were). he wanted to become rich is all and that he was probably greedy for the killing and tricking the aztecs.

Pizarro was a Spanish explorer. Most people think the conquistadors were great amazing people saving the day, but that is not true at all, in fact, most of them were poor peasants and soldiers looking for a better life. They just happened to luck out.

Pizarro was son of Gonzalo Pizarro, who had him out of wedlock. He was born somewhere between 1471-1476, and died on June 26, 1541. He was the second cousin once removed of Hernan Cortes, destroyer of the Aztec Empire. Pizarro wanted to mark his own name in history as well. In 1513, Pizarro arrived at the isthmus of Panama, becoming the first European to see the Pacific Coast of the new world.

He was made Mayor of Panama City. Years later, Pizarro made an alliance with priest Hernando de Luque, and soldier Diego de Alamagro. He had heard stories of El Dorado, a city of pure gold. After several excursions and battles, Fransisco Pizarro finally conquered the Incas in 1532.

After a dispute over jurisdiction, Diego de Alamagro was executed in 1538, and his son, Alamagro II, was left with nothing. Three years later, Diego de Alamagro II led an attack on Pizarro's palace at Lima and took his place as Governor of New Castle.

During his lifetime, Pizarro did many notable things such as founding Lima and defeating the Incan empire. Pizarro was the infamous conquistador that is said to have had the king of the Inca Civilization murdered in 1533.

Juan Ponce de Leon, the Spanish explorer and conquistador, was the man who led the first European expedition to Florida. He called it La Florida because of its verdant landscape and because it was the Easter season.

Another is that Balboa had 2 wives. The 1st was an Indian chief's daughter, and the 2nd was Pedrarias Devila's daughter! Also. Balboa brought his dog Leoncico on one of his expeditions with Nicuesa and Ensico. Thanks!

Ponce de Leon never found the Fountain of Youth that he was looking for. In that sense, he was unsuccessful. However, he explored territory, claimed it for his country, and came back alive. Some people would consider that to be success.

I haven't found the specific date but supposedly he was born in 1485, Medellin, Castile. It might not be possible to find a specific date. Record keeping back in 1485 isn't what it is today. With many people from this era, even famous ones, sometimes there is no birthday recorded.

Hernando de Soto did not conquer the Incas even though he participated in it.

He wanted to find the fountain of youth because the taino natives at Puerto Rico wanted to get rid of him and talk to him about this marvelous fountain of youth to lure him out from PR. He was getting old and feeling young again sounded like an excellent idea, better than just finding gold.

The warriors were brave and were willing to die in battle. They also served as a much needed front line force which Cortez did not nearly have enough of alone.

Other than when sharing a battlefield together the enemies of the Aztecs were a constant distraction that could not be ignored. Of course none of this was even needed if Cortez simply remained kind and peaceful to the Aztecs the disease would have still spread that the Spanish brought in.

He sailed for Spain. And brought the Potato to Europe. His greatest achievement was the conquering the Inca empire. He died in Lima Peru after multiple stab wounds.
