Hirakud Dam (Oriya: ହୀରାକୁଦ ବନ୍ଧ) is built across the Mahanadi River, about 15 km from Sambalpur in the state of Orissa in India. Built in 1957, the dam is one of the world's longest earthen dam.[1] Behind the dam extends a lake, Hirakud Reservoir, 55 km long. Hirakud Dam is one of the longest dams in the world, about 16 mi (26 km) in length. It is one of the first major multipurpose river valley project started after India's independence. What is the water pressure at the bottom of a dam with a depth of 200 m?
In very round numbers, the pressure at the surface of the water due to the atmosphere above it
is 14.7 pounds per square inch, or about 100 kPa, and it increases by that amount with each
additional 10 meters of depth. So at the depth of 200 meters, the total is the pressure of the
atmosphere plus 20 times as much additional, or roughly 309 pounds per square inch (2100 kPa).
Notice that it doesn't matter whether you're talking about the bottom of Hoover Dam or the bottom
of a 200-meter soda-straw. The length and width of the pool are irrelevant. The only dimension that
contributes to the pressure is the depth.
What type of resource is the Hoover Dam?
Hoover Dam is what is called an arch-gravity dam. The name curved-gravity dam or arched dam might also be applied. This type of dam uses a curve or arch which has it's apex or "top" directed ''against'' the force of the water it is retaining. This sets up a condition wherein the water will compress the dam against the sides to which it is anchored. Less material fill is required to hold this dam in place compared to a simple gravity dam. Use the link below to learn more. Another link will show lots of images of this and other dams of the same type.

How much does it cost to build an auditorium?
It really depends on how big you want the auditorium to be. I would say about in the 750,000 dollar range just for lights sound and seating. And that's in the low price range.
What materials are used to build dams?
Beavers and humans build dams. Beavers build low dams with sticks,
branches, and mud. Humans use earth, rock, and concrete to build very high
dams. Beavers build a stick lodge right next to their dam. Humans build a
hydroelectric plant next to their dams. The dam and lodge protect the beaver
from its predators. Human dams protect people from floods and provide
water for irrigation. ........................

How is rehabilitation of displaced population carried out due to dam on narmada river?
The Social Science project is mainly for tehri dam and narmada bsed dams
The usual migration from the hills to the plains from the sub-mergence area, the government servants transferred from the hills, and the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) employees has all been shown as the uprooted and rehabilitated people. Besides all the expenses on government office buildings have been shown as expenses on rehabilitation till sheds were erected at Koti colony at a cost of Rs. 1 crore. The employees of the JP Company are living in these sheds, though these were meant for the uprooted people. This expense was charged to the rehabilitation budget. The employees of the company are using hundreds of flats though these were charged to the rehabilitation budget. There should be an investigation into the savings to the company in housing allowances and the revenue earned to the directorate of rehabilitation from the sale of shops and flats. Only last year the directorate sold shops and flats amounting to Rs. 3 crores. In the 11 years from 1990 to 2000 the rehabilitation work was with the water development corporation and it has earned revenue worth crores of rupees. It needs to be told where the amount has been spent. The corporation disowns it's own orders in this respect. These orders had laid down that constructed houses at appropriate places would be provided to the families whose houses have been or will be acquired. Cost of construction and the cost of land of these houses were to be charged to the scheme for which the land would be acquired.
The most harassed are the original residents of the area of submergence who did not receive either proper compensation or proper residence and who are even today not in a position to go anywhere else.
The history of the dam tells us that its costs doubled every 6 years, but the rehabilitation budget is stationary. The Bungalow constructed for the district magistrate has claimed Rs. 47 lakh till date and the Bungalow for the Superintendent of Police Rs. 43 lakhs..... By Kailash Jordan (kv No1)
