Vaccum leak. check all of the connectors that have anything to do with vaccum. If there is a crack, tear, worn into and looking like it could be ok but not sure, remove the vaccum line and inspect it close up for any damage. if your vaccum is not properly working, as soon as your car is at warm curb idle speed, it will die.
Your 1977 Datsun 280Z dashboard lights stopped working and not sure what to do?
The dash lights and tail lights ar on the same circuit. After brining mine to a so called auto electrician, and stripping all of the light connections and checking fuses, connections etc it was determined that dash lights and tail lights were not working as there was break in the wiring somewhere. This would have invoilved weeks of tracing the complete lighting loom, or wiring a separate line to the tail lights and dash lights and a fusable link for both at considerable cost, and devalue to car. I was unwilling to trust the findings of these guys so when I got home i took off the steering colum cowling and disconnected the light switch block connection. I used a simple circuit tester to see if there was power coming to and from both sides when lights on and there was. I then pressed the block back together but really hard so they were all definitely connecting and hey presto... dash lights and tail lights now working perfectly. Sometimes the simplist explanation is the best. Give it a try.

There is a threaded rod where the front protion for the cable and the back come together. (there will be a curved metal channel for each with the rod between them) You will loosen BOTH the lock nut and the adjustment nut. Then adjust the front nut to take out enough slack to slightly tension the cable when the handle is down. Finally, tighten the lock nut behind it.

Look to see if your plugs are fouling. If they are fouling in specific cylinders, the cylinders may be flooding. If it floods enough, it'll either go out your exhaust, or into your crankcase. Could be a stuck open injector, broken fpr....definitely a fuel system management issue.
