What is a different in a 280zx coupe and a 280zx 2 plus 2?
Having this model at one time - the difference is - the 2 + 2 is a coupe with (2) additional seats in back - not small seats but rather bucket seat style -roomy (especially leg room). Both cars , the 280zx and 280zx 2+2 look almost identical - BUT the 2+2 is roughly 8 inches longer in length as well as the same for wheel base) .. nearly 2 inches more in overall width and over an inch in overall height. Doesn't seem like much but it really makes the whole interior feel and seem roomier. The seats fold down to get full hatch back coupe look.
Brake lights will not turn off?
they stay on because your break light switch has this little button that when you press it, well it will turn off nd tahts when you let go of the break nd when you press the break it releases the the button but also the break has a rubber thump thingy on it nd that must of broke cuz once it breaks the little button just goes thrue the little whole where you put the littl rubber thumper thingy yes because that had happened to my 240sx ... ^_^

either the water pump went out or the blower itself did. you have to pull the dash out to replace it. it's really not the most difficult thing to do so don't get discouraged
How do you remove crankshaft in 1976 Datsun 280z?
The L28 engine is the most common Z car engine. Removal of the cranshaft is staight forward. Sans the steps required to pull the engine from the car, with the engine mounted on an engine stand, the steps are: 1) Remove all exterior components from the engine. (Alternator, starter, water pump, intake/exhaust manifold). 2) Remove main pulley 3) Remove front engine cover. Requires the removal of the distributor, oil pump and pump drive shaft from cover, first. 4) Drain engine oil, remove valve cover 5) Remove engine head: remove cam sproket, chain, head requires a 10mm hex drive to loosen head bolts. Lift head from engine, set down on side, being carefull not to damage the valves. 6) Rotate engine 180 degrees, upside down on engine stand. 7) Remove oil filter, oil pan, oil pick up tube. 8) Remove rod caps from crankshaft. 9) Remove crankshaft main caps. Frint and rear main caps are most difficullt to remove and require leveraging these out of the machined surfaces. Be carefull not to damage the mating surfaces. 10) Crankshaft should lift out of engine block.

drain and flush gas tank, change fuel filter, spray some carb cleaner in and on the carb. pull the spark plugs, and spray a good shot of wd-40 in each cylinder. let sit for 24 hours. fill tank with fresh gas, put on new fuel filter, reinstall plugs and air cleaner, and fire it up. will smoke for awhile until the rings reseat. change oil as soon as possible.

I have a 1982 Datsun 280ZX Turbo that has started to have this problem. It would run steady at 65 mpg, but not respond to any attempt to accelerate other than backfire. It started to exhibit a problem of slowing down from highway speeds, with any attempt to accelerate resulting in it backfiring, unless you let your foot off the accelerator and allow it to seemingly take in the excess fuel before trying to accelerate again. Diagnostics pointed to the need to clean the fuel injection system, and replace the distributor cap, rotor, wires and plugs. When I cleaned the FI system alone, it stopped the uneven fuel issue, and would maintain road speeds, but was still sluggish to respond to quick accelerations once at road speed, and was slow off the line. With the replacement of the rotor, cap, wires and plugs, plus a tune up afterwards, it has restored performance completely.

What causes the fuse box in a 240z to melt and how do you prevent and or fix this?
the fuse box in the old 240z always melt when they get old because of corossion in the elictrical systems connections .I fixed mine by replacing the old fuse box with a new improved one from motorsport.Does not get hot anymore and works great Ken
You can replace the coil with an MSD coil when using an MSD ignition, but you don't have to.
Cure for what? Depends on the problems you were having before. MSD is generally more complicated than stock ignition. I mean it ads more steps between bat/alt and spark, so there is more to fail if anything fails; though they are generally reliable. But it depends on the initial problems. If the problem was low voltage to the ignition coil, slapping an MSD ignition box in between won't work either because it uses the same wire input (which would still be too low if that was never fixed).
If the only problem was the coil or distributor, then yea swapping it for MSD coil and distributor will fix it, but you might as well just replace them with stock parts and forget about the MSD ignition box, unless you want the added performance. In that instance it wouldn't be a cure per say. I mean it will fix the problem, but not because it's MSD, but just because you replaced the faulty parts.
