Thousands of people were killed in the height of the Rwandan genocide in 1994. OJ Simpson was arrested for the murder of his ex-wife and her acquaintance, and Kurt Cobain of the popular rock group Nirvana committed suicide.

There were a great number of important 1990's world events. The Olympics were an excellent example of an important fun event.

Leisure-time activities that lost popularity in the 1990's included browsing through flea-markets, and attending collectible conventions. Throughout the 1980's and early 1990's, as baby-boomers were nearing retirement, collecting nostalgic items from childhood was a popular pastime. By the end of the 1990's, these hobbies had all but disappeared, mainly due to the effect of the internet.

By population the biggest city in the world is Bangkok, Thailand with a population of 8,280,925. By area it is New York City with a land area of 8,683 square miles.

Inflation has caused the prices of goods and services to rise considerably since 1993. For example, a gallon of milk cost only 2.86 dollars, while today it can cost nearly 5 dollars.

The price of a Big Mac in the US in 1994 was about $2.30. In January 2014, the cost of a Big Mac averaged $4.62.
