What happens if the police take me to the hospital for prior suicide attempts?

In most states, if someone reports that you are currently suicidal, you are asked to admit yourself to the hospital for an evaluation period not to exceed 72 hours. In some states, Saturday and Sunday don't count against the 72 hours. If they think that you are a hazard to yourself or others, they will ask you for voluntary commitment for up to 30 days. They may ask you to agree to additional 30-day periods until they think you are safe.

If at any time, you decline to do it voluntarily, they will proceed with an involuntary version of the same thing. Since you're going to be there either way, you ought not annoy the people who hold the keys to the door. After all, refusing the treatment you need is interpreted by the judge as a sign that you're crazy.

To get out as quickly as possible, spend little time in your room alone. Staying off by yourself is thought to be anti-social. Attend all the groups, and participate in the groups.

An inappropriate sense of humor is considered a symptom of distorted reality. Be careful what things you laugh at.

If you are sad, comment that your dog is probably feeling abandoned by you, and may not be eating.

Acknowledge the fact that you realize that they have a hard job to do, but you are feeling stressed out by the fact that you have responsibilities, and things are falling apart while you're being confined unnecessarily. You hate to be wasting mental health resources when they are in short supply. Ask what you could do to speed up the evaluation.

Your 16 year old granddaughter steals and lies constantly How do you help her stop this?

Common reasons why people shoplift/steal: * To express feelings of anger, revenge, or entitlement * To fill a sense of emptiness due to grief or loss * To try to make life seem fair * As a thrill or high to escape problems, numb feelings, or ease depression * Depression: I KNOW, from experience, how difficult it is, but once you drag yourself out of bed, throw on a dressing gown, and have a little time in the morning light, preferably doing easy stretching exercises, then have a shower, a cuppa, and either fish, or scrambled eggs, and possibly bacon for breakfast. These provide a lasting energy boost: no carbohydrates for 2 hrs, or extremely little; a teaspoon of sugar is OK, but Xylitol is preferable, (health food stores) or fruit sugar (fructose, such as "Fruisana", from supermarket sugar aisles) or even a LITTLE honey. Splash cold water on your face, to revive you, as needed. No daytime sleeping; only 8 - 9 hrs at night. Antidepressants work quicker than the following; 2 - 6 weeks, but you may have to adjust dosage, or types, whereas St. John's wort is effective for most people, tolerance doesn't develop, and the few side effects don't occur often, and even then are normally not severe. It doesn't cause sleeping problems, or weight change, but usually takes at least 2, and generally 4 - 6 weeks to become effective. A recent, independent German double blind study showed it to be as effective as Sertraline (marketed in the USA as Zoloft: a commonly prescribed antidepressant) in cases of major depression, with far fewer side effects, and those were generally better tolerated, with a lower rate of discontinuation. Unlike antidepressants, where sexual dysfunction is a common side effect, it happens much more rarely with St. John's wort (I have noticed no effect in this area). A multidimensional approach to treating depression without medication follows. All except for no. (7.) are safe to use with medication, but not St. John's wort, because of interactions, and it's sensible to check out anything else first with your doctor. (1.) Take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily: (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or grapefruit, or their FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it. Also take a vitamin B complex which is certified as being 100% of natural origin; a deficiency in vitamin B9 (folic acid, or folate) is known to cause depression. (2.) Work up slowly to at least 20 minutes minutes of exercise, daily, or 30 - 60 mns, 5 times weekly. Too much exercise can cause stress, which isn't wanted when dealing with depression. (3.) Occupational therapy (keeping busy allows little time for unproductive introspection, and keeps mental activity out of less desirable areas of the brain). (4.) Use daily, one of the relaxation methods in sections 2, 2.c, 2.i, or 11, and/or yoga, Tai Chi, and/or the EFT, in sections 2.q, 2.o, and section 53, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris whichever works best for you. (5.) Initially, at least, some form of counselling, preferably either Cognitive Behavio(u)ral Therapy, or Rational Emotive Behavio(u)ral Therapy. (6.) Maintain a mood chart, and daily activities schedule, as per page R, in section 2, at ezy build. (7.) As options, if desired, either a known, effective herbal remedy, such as St. John's wort, (the strength varies, but the supplier should be using a standardised hypericin content, so follow the directions) or supplements, such as SAMe, or Inositol (from vitamin and health food stores, some supermarkets, or mail order: view section 55). Also, 80% of people in the Western world have low magnesium levels, and these are known to cause depression & anxiety. Try the magnesium supplement types shown in http://www.real-depression-help.com/ Some of these will be available in pharmacies, or supermarkets. An improvement can be noticed in as little as a week, if a deficiency is the cause. Also, iodised salt is much preferable to regular salt (one of the treatments in books on depression is iodine drops). This is a shortened version of the much more comprehensive post, which may be seen on page R, in section 2 of ezy build, above, but to gain full appreciation, it's really best to view the whole of section 2. EXoboT75321 If you are already taking antidepressants, and want to use the wort, I suggest that you taper off the antidepressant, over at least 2 weeks, with medical advice as to how long to take, before beginning the wort.

Why is it that sadness never ends?

Sadness does end, but there is always new sadness that comes into one's life. Sometimes when it seems that sadness might never end, it could actually be a chemical imbalance in a person's brain that is causing the sadness.

Since losing love can cause depression is it really better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all what do you think?

i think it's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all. Because at least you had some experience and made mistakes that you can learn from it. Normally, after losing love, you'll be depressed, but then once you're over the depression you will know how to make you're mistakes and you're experiences help you in the future. I mean, being never loved, really means that you'll never know really, what IS the real world and really won't help you be more insightful and understanding about things. I think having loved and lost is better - if i can even use that word. You likely have warm memories. If youd never loved youd feel an intense emptyness since a young age.

Alpha brain waves are associated with meditative states, visualization, and idleness of your optical system. Each time you daydream, relax, meditate or even close your eyes, alpha activity increases.

If you are depressed, you may have excessive alpha brain waves in the left-hemisphere of your brain. Also, if alpha is found to be high in frontal parts of your brain, it may be causing depression, ADD/ADHD, or another disorder.

Alpha brain waves are known for connecting the conscious mind with the subconscious.

If you voluntarily admit yourself to a hospital in Illinois because you self harm can they decide not to let you leave without a doctor's consent?

It depends on why you did it, and what you did. If you really tried to commit suicide, and you have a history of that, they might have to have a doctor's consent and you would have to go through different types of counseling that they would have at the hospital for you so you can get some help.

Are all narcissistic men good lovers?

No they are not (not in the long term), at first they will act as they are, to get their supply. I knew one narcissist that took Viagra the first month ( not telling their partner), than stopped taking it and blamed the partner when the sex was not as good. She had no clue he was taking Viagra and thought there was something terribly wrong with her.

A woman is a kleenex tissue to a narcissist. He will blow his nose (have sex with you), throw the tissue in the garbage, go back to his own thing, then get another tissues when he needs to. That's about all you will get in a long term relationship with a N.

Date him for one month, get the good sex, leave him, then be a fond memory of his. That is the best it gets!!

Some are, if that is what it takes to maintain narcissistic supply.

Why is suicide wrong to religion?

There are two reasons that suicide is considered wrong to Christians. The first reason is that suicide is murder, no matter who you kill, it is murder and the Bible says not to murder. Second, God has a person's live all planned out for them. God knows what is going on in a person's life and it has a reason. So the person should trust God and believe that God has a plan for their life and not just end it becasue they think they need to. Why should they decide when their life shall end? God already has decided that and they should just let God be in control of their life and trust in Him.

Are illnesses like many other mental disorders curable or merely treatable?

IT CAN BE TREATABLE, TO CALM THE PERSON DOWN,BUT IT CAN'T BE CURED CAUSE IT'S MENTAL.

AnswerIT CAN BE TREATABLE, TO CALM THE PERSON DOWN,BUT IT CAN'T BE CURED CAUSE IT'S MENTAL.

EDIT.

Humans can bury their "insanity" with therapy and psychs and stuff. I agree that it cannot be "cured," but i don't think it needs to be: insanity is a gift, like having an IQ of 215. Use it, don't try to get rid of it... Perhaps the world needs more insane people.
