What is medical assistants role in the dermatology office?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Clinical duties: Taking vital signs and height and weight, preparing the patient for the doctor's examination, taking patient history (...although the doctor I worked for preferred to do this for himself), administering shots as ordered by the doctor, venipuncture (in some offices), setting up for and assisting with minor surgeries, helping the patient feel at ease.
Administrative: Greeting patients and guests, answering phones, scheduling, accurately entering details into the offices HMR system, notifying patients of delays, insurance verification/pre-certs

and pre-auths,

stocking supplies.

Every office is different, but pretty much anything an MA is generally trained for in school, with a few skills specifically related to dermatology.

What do doctors do when there is lead stuck in your skin?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If it's deep enough, then local anesthetic and tweezers and/or small incision. Pencils no longer use lead - they're graphite.

A bit more:

Unless they have changed how they treat from they way they did 20 years ago, they often advise the patient to just leave it alone unless it begins to show infection.

I have a piece in the palm of my hand, as well as a piece in my hip from a pencil fight at school with another kid from almost 45 years ago. Neither of them have ever caused me any problems of any kind.

When my daughter was around ten years old (well over 20 years ago) she got a piece of pencil lead stuck in her arm. I took her to the doctor, who said to just keep it clean with soap and water, and keep an eye on it to make sure it didn't begin to show signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, pain, fever.

But it would probably be a good idea to have a doctor or a nurse practitioner examine it, just to be safe.

There are many homemade recipes:

*mix rose water with 1 tbsp of powdered camphor and store it in air tight container in the refrigerator.

*Or 2 tbsp of fullers earth, 5 ground cloves, a pinch of camphor and rose water. Wash off with ice cold water.

*Take the cream from fresh milk, add few drops of lemon and apply on the face to remove pimples and acne.

*Grind dried orange peels in water and apply the paste on the face. This removes pigmentation marks and pimple.

*Take equal quantities of alum and black pepper and apply on pimples and acne.

*Apply cucumber juice on face to remove pigmentation marks and pimples.

---People suffering with pimples and pigmentation marks should maintain a clean stomach. They should improve their digestive strength and keep the intestines clean. They should walk in open and fresh air and consume a proper diet - at least 12 glasses of water each day and lots of green vegetables.

The biggest mistake would be to touch or prick them. Also dont use soap on your face. Use medicated face wash like johnson & johnson's clean and clear.

Where is a dermatologist that accepts medicaid in Alexandria La?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I was recently (in February 2009) looking for a dermatologist in the Acadiana area that accepted Medicaid. While calling around to several dermatology offices, I was referred to the LSU Surgical Clinic on Perkins Rd in Baton Rouge. They are a division of Earl K Long Hospital. The number is 1-225-768-5700. I just called and verified that they took Medicaid, then was able to set the appointment. I did have to wait a month for an appointment, and I drove 1 1/2 hours, but the staff was very friendly. NOTE: Medicaid does not pay for prescriptions that are for "cosmetic" benefits, so your medications may not be covered. Hope that helps!
