Animals which live in the dry desert are those which are specially adapted to the dry conditions. Most of them do not need to drink water, but obtain sufficient moisture from the foods they eat. Some desert animals burrow down deep to find water. Others are specifically "shaped" to collect water. For example, the body of the thorny devil in Australia is completely covered in sharp spikes which actually collect the moisture that condenses in the early morning (or the occasional rains) and channel it directly down towards its mouth.

Camels can live in the desert because they have many adaptations to protect them from the heat and the sand, and the ability to store fat which enables them to go for longer periods without food or water.

Many varieties of snakes can live in the desert because they are less subject to heat and dehydration that mammals and birds suffer.

The Rub' al Khali, or Empty Quarter, is one of the largest sand deserts in the world, characterized by extreme temperatures, scarce water resources, and challenging living conditions. These harsh environmental factors make it difficult for people to sustain agriculture, access fresh water, or find adequate shelter. Additionally, the lack of infrastructure and economic opportunities further discourages permanent habitation in this remote region. As a result, only a small number of nomadic tribes have historically inhabited parts of the desert.
