What is initializing a DVD-rw?

What this means is that the device the disk was inserted in is setting up the format of the disk to match the operating system of the device so that it's compatible with the device's recording methods. When it's done recording it'll also most likely `finalize the disk' which is to say, close the files so that the disk is properly completed and the files can't be written over until you command the software to erase the disk for re-use.

Why do VCR and other video equip give you the option of channel 3 or 4.?

Because in the OLDEN days the connections between the VCR and the TV or Cable Box was thru the Coax Connection which went straight to the TUNER Section. You tune your TV to Channel 3 and use the VCR or the Cable remote (&/or tuner section) to select the channel you wanted to watch. Most all of the connection diagrams had ALL of your devices hooked up in Series (1) Cable Box --> (2) VCR --> TV. Today there are different types of LINE IN (or Input Selector) inputs which allow for selecting different devices.

How can you get your LiteOn 5005 dvr to eject disks?

Try unplugging the player for awhile. This will cause the little computer chip inside to reboot when you plug it back in.

If that doesn't work, you may have a broken belt on the eject motor drive (assuming your player has a belt drive for that) or it's just plain stuck.

The good thing is that generally, you can force the tray to open IF you pull on it in a forward direction, gently though, to at least recover your disk.

Does HD video play on regular tv?

High definition signals cannot be played back on standard definition televisions. However, some HD equipment is fitted with something called a "down converter" that outputs SD signals from HD content. If you are lucky enough to have that feature in your HD source, then you can wtch HD content on an SD TV. Remember, the quality you will see is SD, even though the original source is HD.

What is video input of betacam uvw 1800?

The Betacam UVW 1800 is a broadcast standard video editing deck. There are several inputs: Composite on a BNC, S-Video on a 4 pin mini-din, component on a Sony 12 pin connector and component on 3 BNCs. Outputs are similar. This deck pre-dates the DigiBeta equipment and therefore there is no SDI interface (SDI is the digital component signal carried on a single co-ax).

Can TiVo be hooked up to my digital cable?

Hi,

Don't see why not, since it's a subscription service. Since Tivo can be connected to satellite systems, I would expect them to also be compatible with cable systems as well.

To be on the safe side, go to the Tivo website and see what info you can find. Either that, or give the people at Tivo a call. My personal expereince with them is that they're a friendly and helpful company.

Hope this helps,

Cubby

What can you do with a digital camcorder?

Same as can be done with any camcorder - tape family events, vacations, sports, etc. The recorded format is now much easier to transform to a DVD-R disc as it is already in digital format unlike those that use magnetic tape for recording which has to be converted from an analog source to digital.

I have Canon Camcorders (two camcorders) and I use them on birthdays.

When was the VCR invented?

Sony came out with the first VCR for home use in 1975. It was called the Betamax. A year later, JVC introduced its VHS videocassette recorder. After a several-year battle, the VHS became the VCR standard. Sony began producing VHS recorders in 1988 and produced its last Betamax in 2002.

The true first VCR was invented in 1956 and was the size of a piano.

The VCR was invented in 1971 along with the dot-matrix, food processor and the liquid-crystal display

The VCR that we see these days was invented in 1970.

Who requested the external clock on the VCR and which company was he chairman of?

The first `consumer VCR' was put on the market by Sony in 1974. It was the Betamax and could only record one hour at a time. It also came with a clock that had a plug in the back for the VCR and it was used as a timer mechanism. You'd set the clock to `alarm' just like any other clock, but instead, it would turn on the power to the VCR, which would then start recording. (For what it's worth, I no longer have the VCR, but I still have the clock and I use it even today.)

Sony also invented the VHS format, but sold it to JVC because Sony didn't feel that the picture quality was good enough over all. That's also what killed the Betamax: recording time. VHS could do six or eight hours, depending on the tape and Sony couldn't do more than four and a half. Naturally, as it turns out, picture quality wasn't as important as recording time to the average consumer.

Of course, the later versions of the VHS machine had made several improvements which allowed for a half way decent picture in the extended mode.

Funny thing is, Sony had to license the rights back to make VHS recorders. Go figure.

TiVo is more than a generic DVR?

Yes. TiVo is easier to program, and gets its program information from your cable or satellite provider. Because of this, it may not work on all systems.
