Now, a lot of factors are involved in getting a neurosurgery residency. You class rank in medical school, your Step 1 scores, any research you have done, letters of recommendation, and your clincial grades during your 3rd year of medical school all matter. It also matters that you are in allopathic school. (M.D.) Yes, D.O's can be neurosurgeons, but it is much harder for them to get a residency in this competitive of a residency. The match results are way better for "U.S. allopathic seniors." Meaning in this country (not the carribean) and allopathic (not a D.O.)
