1. Contrary to popular belief the cat can hear higher frequencies than a dog, making them better at hearing. This is due to their higher evolved inner ear as well as the positioning of the ear itself. A Dog hears sounds then tries to understand where the sound is coming from (turn their head until both ears can hear the sound exactly the same). A Cats lowest frequency of hearing is 45hz, whereas a Dogs is 67hz (meaning a cat can hear lower sounds better). The highest frequency a Cat can hear is 64,000hz whereas the dog can only hear 45,000hz (meaning the cat can hear higher sounds better). In all, the cat hears better than a dog.

You can't determine "better" by one value alone. You have told us the cat has the wider aural band-width, but what are the animals' amplitude sensitivities related to frequency? Band-width alone does not mean the cat can hear somehow "better" than a dog, only that it can pick up a greater pitch range. On a more general point, animals have the hearing they need for their own species' lives, so comparisons of "quality" are meaningless anyway.

If they want to be near you, as many of mine do, (I have 35 in the house), let them snuggle up to you. Throw a blanket over them, it makes them feel safe. Some just want to be alone in a dark place. Let them hide, and check on them as often as you can. You may be lessening their fear by showing you care.

Why does your dog bite him self?
The answer given below is absolutely NOT the way to do it. If in doubt, ask a professional animal behaviorist.
What is totally WRONG with the answer below is that many people still do it. They think that giving a negative feedback provides a positive result. This is absolutely the wrong thing to do. If you want positive results, then give positive feedback.
The method explained below requires that dogs can think in terms of reward and punishment that is longer than three seconds. They cannot do that. So when you are punishing them, they have not a clue why you are being mean to them. If they may appear to you to be doing less of the behavior is because they are avoiding you or just doing nothing because they are afraid of punishment.
That is not training, that is abuse. All they learned is that they cannot trust you, so they do what they think you want them to do.
Well I squeeze my puppy's snout because his teeth will scratch his gums to
show him how hard he's biting and how it hurts us. We do it until he squeals to
make sure he really felt it and we're not just closing his mouth. This will only stop
biting for a bit but instead of the puppy biting until it's say 1 year old the pup
may stop at 8 months if you keep doing this.
Also: you might try to offer an old shoe or something else to chew on.

Your dogs digging might be a sign of not being stimulated enough. Either find him/her a activity to that will keep it busy or train it. Training can be done by first bringing it outside. Once it begins to dig create a distraction noise to stop him/her. If he/she sops and looks up at you give him/her a treat. He/she will eventually learn that not digging in the yard is a good thing.
It really depends on your dog.
The breed, gender, and just what it would like to eat.

Since you are in the cat's family, the cat wants to communicate back to you.
Why are female dogs more protective towards male owners?
Men in general have a "presence" that dogs will perceive, dogs react to their perceptions showing us their unconscious fears or their remembering previous mistreatment. Humans can perceive this "presence" but often don't realize it, think back to seeing people in the distance, could you tell men from women? Dogs are even better at it, and again linking that to past traumas (some of the most memorable things are traumatic experiences) dogs will naturally go into a "fear reactive mode".
