Dog Behavior

Dogs are unable to talk just like we do, but we can still understand their feelings by observing their behavior and body language. It is compulsory that an owner is aware of his dog's body language, as it will not only strengthen their bond, but will also prevent tragic results where the owner is forced to abandon his dog due to behavior problems. In this category, there are questions relating to the different body languages of dogs, their behavior, etc.

Why do dogs tuck in their tails?

A dog which keeps its tail high in the air while wagging it may be aggressive. Many large dogs wag their tails in this fashion to indicate that they are dominant. If a dog is holding its tail up and waving only the tip, you should approach with care, watching for other signs like the position of the ears or growling. If a dog has its tail between its legs, however, it indicates submission. Frightened or nervous dogs may wag their tails stiffly between their legs. Approach this type of dog cautiously as well, since dogs can bite or snap out of fright A raised tail can also be a trait of a particular breed. Some dogs tails are curled up above their backs and are almost always in that position (Huskies for example). Other breeds have tails that hang down and hardly ever are raised.

Why do dogs stick their head out car windows?

For the Fun of ItDogs are in general quite happy beings, so they do it for the same reason as human animals - it's a lot of fun. It could be that your type of dog loves adventures and is looking or trying new things. They like the sensation in their face when the wind puffs their cheeks.

For the Smell of It

Dogs have a much more heightened experience of smell than we do. Just as humans might look out the window to survey their surroundings, dogs use their nose to get a sense for where they are. Their tongues, hung out in happiness, are probably tasting the air too.

Dogs love fresh air. Maybe the car air or any transportation vehicle has mechanical air which may harm their normal behavior as an average dog.

Why do dogs walk close to wall?

Its their way of showing submission. If a dog goes on his back to you he is accepting you as his master. This is part of the answer but here's a little more in-depth version as reported by USA Today. In general, dogs lie on their back for three reasons. First, if your dog lies there totally relaxed, he probably does so because it "just feels good", says veterinarian Holly R. Nash, of Drs. Foster & Smith, Inc. in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. He must feel safe since he's exposing his throat, gut, and heart to possible attack. Or, second, he may be showing respect. Dogs live in family-based packs like wolves, and follow deference rules, controlled, perhaps, by the oldest female, says Karen L. Overall, ABS Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist and researcher at the University of Pennsylvania. So, a dog that lies down and rolls over on his back may simply be deferring to you. Dogs have let us - a different species - into their social structure over the millennia since we first domesticated wolves, at least 14,000 years ago and perhaps 60,000 to 100,000 years ago. Finally, he may be withdrawing, disengaging, seeking time alone. Note the dog lying on his back in the drawing. His chest is partially covered (with his paws). This indicates withdrawal, says Overall. In the canine world, his behavior clearly states, "Leave me alone." Disturb him, even to pet, at your own risk.

Why do dogs scratch themselves a lot?

Can dogs smell things humans can smell?

Pheromones are naturally occurring chemicals excreted by animals and humans alike. Although the usefulness of human pheromones is much reduced because of modern hygiene practices, they are produced by all humans.

Why would a female dog rub its butt across the floor?

This sort of behaviour in cats is usually a result of worms. Let's face it - cat's tongues go in some pretty dirty places, simply because they do like to clean themselves. They can easily pick up worms from the dirt they try to clean off their bodies with their tongues, because worms can be harboured in the ground, and these worms are transferred to the cat's body with the dirt, which is then transferred to the cat's intestine when it cleans itself.

Worms give cats an itchy butt. Dragging themselves across the ground is often the only way they can relieve the itchiness. If your cat is doin this, get an all-round cat worming solution from the vet. Don't get an off-the-shelf wormer at the supermarket, because these often miss certain worms.

What is a pet dogs favorite color?

i thought they were colorblind

--------------------------------------------------------

No they are not colorblind. In our eyes, we have cones that allow us to see color. Dogs only have 2 out of the 3 cones allowing them only to see 2 primary colors( blue and yellow) It depends on the environment but I believe( you will have to check on this) they are atracted to the colors that contrast to the environment around them. Hope this helps!

Do dogs get depressed when their fur is cut too short?

yes actually. some breeds of dogs will, mostly small dogs and mostly breeds like shiz-tu and lassaopsos( sorrry that wasnt spelled right) its not actually depression, more like insecurity. I have noticed that if you get a sweater or a shirt that is made for dogs( as seen in pet smart) your dog should loose the depression.
