hi i am zain! the answer can be too long too short! dear questionier it depends of what breed dog is,blood hound,labrador retriever,golden,pointer german or english,german shepherd etc! now each of these breeds have thier own capabillity or level of sniffing out things.it also depends on age of a dog if its a puppy it might take some paience and time to train but things u will train a puppy will remain embeded in its mind for very long time! it also depends on how much time u are giving to ur puppy in sniffer training! for example a blood hound breed has a tendency to sniff in its blood from the time it starts to stand on its legs it will sniff things because its in blood hound's nature to do! on average any breed as i listed above any of them is been trained for 1 hour daily then YES ur dog will be an excellent sniffer in 3 months! regards zainii :)

PS, if you do lock up your doberman, give it plenty of space, like lock it in an extra room, or in your backyard. ( if you have a fence or long leash.) if the company stays for more than 15 minutes excuse yourself to get your dog some food and water so he can be comfortable and fed during his wait. Try to introduce him to the crate. If it is a house dog that is used to being free they may not like it. If not there shouldn't be a problem. It may upset the older dog.

In general, dogs are very accepting of people, even after they have been abused, but sometimes abuse results in very negative behaviors. However, you don't want to do anything that will make things worse, either.

Honestly, an abused dog is a situation that requires a specialist (just as dealing with an abused child requires help from a psychologist or other experts). I recommend that you consult with someone at your local SPCA and get a referral to a reputable person (who you should offer to pay, if you can) who knows a lot about rehabilitating abused dogs. It is a slow, complex task and not always possible, but very much worthwhile when successful.

When I first brought home my puppy "Roxy", she would cry all night for her mom, it broke my heart! Someone told me to by an old ticking clock and put in under the pillow in her bed.
