(PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS BECAUSE ALL OF THE INFO IS VITAL) First you need to get a decent bass drum pedal with a heel placement. You'll find this very simple once you get the hang of is. If you know how to roll properly on a drum, you find that it's like rolling with your feet. You do NOT need a double bass drum to do this but if you don't the method wond sound right. Try to roll with 1 hand and if you do It correctly it will sound like a shuffle. Okay, now, back to the method. All you have to do is nail your heel to the end of the pedal. It does not have to touch the pedal. That's when the ball of your for is very important. When you strike the heel part of the pedal, the ball of your foot will hit the somewhere near the center of the pedal. Then just rock your foot forward and strike the pedal again with your toes. If you call this the heel/ball toe method, it might make a little more sense. The motion isn't the same as a roll on a drum but the sound is; because halfway through the second hit of the first foot, you use the same method with the opposite foot just like a roll. This is the way I learned how to use it, there are a lot of other ways but i think this is the best description.

based on seeing him last night at county fair, DaMar plays DW drums, 22 or 24" single bass drum single 12" mounted tom, 18 or 20" floor tom, I'm assuming hardware and pedals are DW. 14 or 15" high hat, 20-21"ride, 18-19" crash on his left, 20-21" crash/ride mounted just to right of main ride, and I believe he had a smaller 16-18" crash ride to the right of that.Couldn't make out brand, but I'm guessing Zildian or Sabian, as they didn't look like Paiste to my eye.Fun to watch, hits hard, kicks hard, great groove. Band was way better than I expected, infectious pop melodies, great harmonies, and catchy hooks. DaMar is slammin'!

I use almost exclusively 1A drumsticks. Drumstick sizes vary between manufacturers, but Vic Firth's 1As are slightly thicker (.565" vs. .580") and significantly longer (16" vs. 16 13/16") than your standard 5A drumstick.

I'm sure at some point in the past drumstick sizing nomenclature made some sort of sense, but with all of the different varieties and naming conventions you kind of just have to test to see which you like best.

You might substitute the word "places" for "puts" but that would be pedantic since the first definition of the word "put" is "to place". Perhaps the drum maker does not heat the drum and the sentence is untrue, but grammatically correct. Would like to hear from others on this one.
