Your question makes no sense. Eisenhower wasn't president until 1953, and he wasn't on a coin until 1971.

The French were in control of the region, and the rebels (north vietnamese) were winning against the French, so the US sent troops into Vietnam in order to help the French. Later in the War the US noticed that it was fighting a war by itself. After 3.5 million dead the US left Vietnam since the American population voted against the long war (due to television of dead Americans), even though the US was going to win the war within a few months to a year, with massive troop advance and US funding. Today Vietnam is a poor 3rd world country, no better than how the US military left it.

Henry Cabot Lodge nominated him for the republic party after Eisenhower told Truman, he was a republican. Then Eisenhower was convinced that he had to be president after Truman submited his budget with a $14,000,000 deficit and Robert Taft wanted to draw troops from NATO, something Eisenhower saw as a way to combat communism, rearm European countries, and to boost moral in Europe. Taft's decision to try to take U.S. troops from NATO was the impetus for Eisenhower's willingness to become dedicated to running for President.

Eisenhower switched to the Republican party, so he would have a chance of being elected in 1952. I think he was an independent before that but unfortunately I cannot tell you which.
