Why would someone might seek help for eating disorder?
For anorexics, once they start losing weight they become too focused on food and weight and body and need to focus on being healthy and have a normal body/weight and not restrict. It's hard to get out of the cycle of restricting calories its like a drug- feels good in the moment, but doesn't help you but harms you in the long run. We need help because of this and have a team of therapists dieticians psychiatrists etc
I don't know too much about bulimics and binge eaters but its all the same idea. Our eating habits are out of control and we need help dealing with them and our other life problems differently so we can get our lives back.
Well the first couple times you do it; It will cause nausea, upset stomach, headaches, dehydration, diarrhea, and faintness. You will probably black out and be very light headed.
If you continuously do it, your intestines won't work without the laxatives. Your body will be dependent on them so it is not good to continuously do it. Also the more you do it the chances of causing a serious injury to yourself increase immensely.
How can person avoid eating disorder?
eat something twiggie
Anorexia usually has two main causes: body image and need for control. If you work on liking yourself, and thinking that you are great the way you are, that will help the first part. The other part is when people feel out of control of their lives, sometimes they start trying to have *extra* control of something specific, like eating. Working on being able to make your own choices and have your own opinions will help with that part. If someone is already anorexic, the best thing to do is talk to a therapist to try to change the way you think about certain things... sometimes we all need help to change. Difficult question, we are learning more about this illness all the time. It is more prevalent in the US and in young women/girls. It is characterized by a distorted body self-image, one where th individual sees themselves as obese or fear of being obese. The cause is unknown, but may have to do with parenting, the media, and western cultures fascination with perfection, manifested in movies, models, magazine covers, and television. In the last 50 years or so, the ideal woman has shifted from the full figured woman to todays very thin, boney woman with breast implants. As parents you may be able to avoid creating a child with this eating disorder with unconditional love and acceptance. It is not healthy to be obese, but too much focus on being thin can create a distorted self-image in a young mind. Not everyone can have the "perfect" body, set an example for your children by eating a well balanced diet and getting plenty of exercise. Get them involved in sports and extracurricular activities, do not degrade them if they are overweight, genetics plays a huge role in your body type, which is something none of us has any control over. Do not make your child clean their plate, and do not let them eat junk food, they learn at an early age that they can skip the dinner prepared for them and have a junk food snack later. Peer pressure may also play a role, but this is something parents have very little control over. If your child is overweight do not make it a major issue, praise them for their accomplishments, whether they are in sports, art, music, academics, or whatever, let them know you love them and they are beautiful inside and outside.

Well, we look at the stars alot, the bony thin people who seem to look amazing in any clothes they wear. Alot of the stars have been anorexic, take Mary Kate, or some others. This basically screams to us, THIS IS THE WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT! But it really isn't. So much emphasis is on the way that people look that young teenagers are looking up to these people and thinking that they are NORMAL sized when the average size for a UK female is a 16. So these size 0, anorexic are the un-natural ones, not the real, curvy women. In answer to the question, YES the media has a HUGE impact on the eating habits of young people.

Do you have to be underweight to be anorexic?
If u are around 5'5 or smaller and weigh more than 140, you are considered overweight. But then if you stop eating, yes you will be anorexic. Sooner than later your body will start eating away at your muscle stores, giving you the anorexic look. Then it will start eating your fat, and then it will start eating your organs,a nd that can cause heart failure. I am an anorexic and this is the first time i have ever answered questions. i weigh 101 and I'm 5'5. I used to weigh 130. I always look online for ways to lose more weight, but trust me its not fun. I cant sleep and i cry almost every night. I'm also a compete witch now a days. I have no friends either. I pushed them all away. Some people say oh your body holds on to the fat, and that may be true for a bout a week. You'll lose a ton of weight then you will, stay the same for a while, then again your body will lose a ton of weight. But once you start eating again, you'll gain it back so fast. That's why its called Anorexia. Because you wont eat again. You hate food like i do. You hate living like i do.
Can one have an eating disorder and not be concerned about their weight?
You might, but maybe not too. Many people obsess about their weight and never do anything destruction to themselves. If it making your life miserable, you should find someone to talk to about it and certainly see someone if you start feeling like doing something.
