Also we wear things that help to show that we are not going to listen to the preps and their beliefs because they don't accept us for what we all are. You know, typically, it's not the Emo's that cut themselves, it's the posers and wannabes, and the posers that cut themselves, well, most usually show people their scars to prove that they're 'emo' when their only hurting themselves to prove what there not. Now, to answer the question.

It's not only Emo's that wear wristbands, preps, jocks, scenesters, even the goths wear wristbands. It's not just one stereotype that wears the same types of clothes and accessories, preps even wear skinny jeans and hair bows every once in a while, and that doesn't necessarily make them scene or emo, it makes them who they want to be.

The wristbands we all wear are just different, some are pink, some have something relating to emo written on it, like, I wear Brokencyde and Blood on the Dance floor bracelets, but that's because i love those bands.

And one more thing, I doubt anybody fears a stereotype, why would preps fear us; and why would scenesters, emos or goths fear them?

well emo people are emo because they are super emotional. emo is a state of mind not a fashion but many emo people do wear dark colors and cut but not all do. emo is just another subculture

not all emos wear dark clothes. To be emo you have to have hair with bangs getting at least down to your eyebrow, you have to have lots of emotion, emos aren't homosexuals or bisexuals who are sad and cut themselves. Also emos have to listen to dark or loud rock music like goth, emo, punk, hard rock, grunge, metal. (corection to the above steryotypical statment) emo is shortened from emotional. and REAL emo kids are kids woth problems. any problems even if there common. everyone copes with things diferently. for example i know someone who became emo when they pulled there father out of bed dead just a week after reuniting after a long court case of child abuse. and then there are people who have drunk parents and broken homes. and then you have people who get picked on and singled out. or you even have people who simply find the daily anoyances that we all have a bit harder to handle. and the color black has always been a color of emotion. such as mourning at funerals. black has simbolized a depressed aura for ages. its simply natural.

Emo is Emotional Hardcore or just Emotional. Most of us are original. If you aren't original you'll be called a poser for being a follower. Not all of us cut. Most emos do ,but you can be happy. Black is a must for all emo people. We listen to emo music. Screamo is the most emo you can get besides Death Metal.

Soon enough you will end your emo phase but if you want to tell your parents and they accept it... it is ok. but it takes a lot to tell your parents.
