Can alcohol lead to hyperthermia?

Yes it can, in days gone by it was considered to help people who were suffering from exposure to administer strong drink. The St. Bernard with a Brandy Keg for instance. We now know that it is the worst thing you can do. When your body begins to cool due to exposure a survival device is triggered to shut down the blood supply to the extremities and with draw to the body core to protect the vital organs. Alcohol will over-ride this action and whilst the sufferer may feel warmer, and certainly feel better, it is momentary, and is likely to cause greater damage or even Death.

What does post humorous mean?

Posthumorous isn't a "proper" word; it's a combination of POSTHUMOUS (no R) which means "after death" and HUMOROUS which means "funny". Literally, posthumorous means "after funny", which doesn't have a clear meaning. Possible meanings for posthumorous or "post humorous" include:

- Something that was funny but isn't funny anymore (from answers.com)

- Something that is funny only because someone else finds it funny (from urbandictionary)

- Funny items from newspapers e.g. typos

- A musician/band (see Myspace and Facebook)

- There's a web site posthumorous.com that seems to be about computer forensics.

Why doesn't the USA use the metric system?

Well USA doesn't use the metric system because of 2 reasons. 1. They are used to using the customary system (but they use the metric system often) Example: A liter of Coca Cola. 2. Money issues. (If USA were to switch to the metric system they would have to use a lot of money to change signs and maybe even instead of putting miles in cars kilometers). By the way I think we are the only country that uses metric system all over the world.(I think some people use it in Canada but I don't know) If interested about more ask more questions and I will try to answer them as soon as possible.

EDIT___________________________________________________________EDIT

Most countries use the metric system. The USA is one of the few countries that doesn't use it.

EDIT___________________________________________________________EDIT

Those may be right answers, I don't know much. But, I DO know that we also don't use the metric system. Because, since we hated the British we didn't want to be like them. They use the metric system because it seemed easier, well, 100 cm = 1 m. And 100oC is Boiling point - things like that. Why we hated the British? That's a question for Social Studies!

- A 6th grade answer from a 6th grade student! :)

EDIT___________________________________________________________EDIT

The FRENCH invented the metric system.

Can you have a bacterial infections without fever?

Yes you can.

Depending on the person and infection, you may not show signs of a fever when you have a bacterial infection.

More experienced doctors can recognize the duration of your symptoms, or they may send you to do blood work.

I've had bacterial infections twice. I've had a upper lung infection, and the company doctor heard my lungs and the bad wheezing I had but still refused to give me anti-biotics because I had no fever and he didn't give me a blood test. I had to visit my family doctor and he gave me anti-biotics on the spot.

Recently I had a bacterial throat infection and because I'm in a different country and they didn't have my medical history, I had to go to the hospital to get my blood work done and I had an elevated white cell count and a high level of bacteria in my bloodstream. Once again, no fever.

It really depends on a person. I do realize that once I'm infected with a strain I'm not used to, I have no fever and it doesn't clear up unless I get antibiotics.

Best bet is, insist on a CBC blood test.
