This is very interesting- the song (We didn"t start the Fire) is NOT about fire fighting if you follow it from the beginning- it is a juxtaposition of apparently unconnected historic al events of the past half-century ( when it was written) and presumably there was computer animation =say magazine covers on a screen as the song was performed- though we didn"t light it, we"ve been trying to fight it- is used in the sens of containing world problems- the song is NOt about fire fighting. I have been familiar with rock and popular music all my life- and am not aware of ONE song ( possible exceptions for martial music without lyrics- as there are bands in the Fire services0- dealing directly with Fire Fighting! the closest would be a Fireman who is an unnamed wallk-on character in the Beatles song Penny lane- there are some fire-engine sound effects in the song- but it is Not about fire fighting. Why put color coated fire hoses on a fire engine?
The reason you use color coded hoses is to make them easier to tell apart. For instance; When a firefighter pulls a pre-connected hose off the engine and runs towards the fire, the pump operator is setting up the pump and may or may not notice where each hose is going so by color coding the hoses he is more aware of which hose is where on the scene. That way he is more likely to charge or discharge the right hose at the right time. Planning BEFORE the fire is very important.
