What are the uses of first aid gloves?
The reason that a first aider uses gloves when touching a victim is because any bodily fluids that come in contact with the first aider may harm them if the first aider has any open cuts or wounds. It is for the protection and safety of the first aider.
Can you lock the workplace first aid kit to prevent theft?
Yes, but the key must be immediately available to all employees, and a log book may be kept. In the US, OSHA regulations provide guidelines on the number, location, and contents of first aid kits.
What does pulse motor sensation mean?
Pulse, motor, and sensation refers to a form of diagnosis done (usually on extremities: arms/legs) after a fracture or injury. For example, if a patient suffers a broken arm, the medical professional will check pulse at the wrist (checking for blood flow past the break), motor (can the hand past the break in the arm move (checking if nerves that control these functions have been severed in the break), and sensory...can the patient feel (sense) again checking for damage to nerves at the site of the break.
What are the necessary first aid things to be done if there is a fracture?
Apply cold packs to the area, keep it still, do not apply any weight, seek professional medical attention.

Can you used methylated spirits on a rash?
Methylated spirits should not be used on a rash especially if they have some pores as it contains chemicals that may be toxic. Calamine lotion is the best solution for rashes.
What is the emergency first aid for a broken leg?
Use the Acronym
RICE
Rest- have the victim rest
Immobilize- in a splint
Cold- apply ice
Elevate- leg above the heart
If you had it xrayed, and a fracture was ruled out, to me this seems to indicate that the foot is probably still swollen. Yes it could be normal. Rest it, keep it elevated. Take anti-inflammatories, and ice it occasionally.

What causes people to have a fit?
It depends on what kind of "fit" it is. If it is a seizure the causes could be very different than someone getting emotionally upset and "pitching" or "throwing" a fit. There could be medical reasons for any fit, even an emotional one, but sometimes people react very strongly to something and get upset and start throwing things. And it depends on the person what could cause this. Finding out that a spouse is having an affair could trigger it in one person... and just missing a phone call could cause it in someone else.
Epileptic seizures can be caused by certain kinds of flashing lights in some people, and I have seen a seizure caused by a doctor putting on a cast too tightly... so there are various causes there as well.
In First Aid, it stands for D-anger, R-esponse, S-hout for help, A-irways and B-reathing.
Im 13 and why do my knees thighs and ankles hurt when I run?
They hurt because running is a physical activity and you are probably out of shape. Keep running and over time it will stop hurting.
A different point of view...At 13, your body is undergoing a lot of growth. The areas you described are high stress areas, and they hurt adult runners as well. In your case, the pain may reflect both the normal stress runners feel performing this activity, as well as pains associated with your high rate of growth. It doesn't sound as if being out of shape has anything to do with this. How can you compare first aid choking in infants to first aid choking on children and adults?
chocking on infants and children and adults aren't much different but with infants they will cough and might be sick and stop breathing
What are indications for using 5 percent dextrose in water?
D5W or Dextrose 5% Water is indicated for: * Rehydration * Provides calories for some metabolic needs (100ml provides 5g dextrose) -- useful in traumas when there's a shock related calorie burn. * By adding carbohydrates, reduces metabolism of proteins for calorie uptake. * May produce diuresis. * Used for keeping an IV catheter open, and providing a means of piggybacking meds into the system IV. Note that emergency services more typically use normal saline or ringers lactate.
What muscle is irritated when you have shin splints?
"Shin splints" is more of a symptom that could be caused by several conditions than a specific condition itself. Pain or discomfort in the front lower leg when running or jumping are a good indication of this type of condition. Putting pressure on the muscles next to the tibia (shin bone) will produce discomfort or pain. Take two fingers and apply firm pressure as you slide your fingers along the tibia where the bone and muscle meet on the medial (inside) and lateral (outsided) sides of the tibia (shin bone). If you feel pain in any of these areas it is likely that either the muscle is pulling away from the bone in microscopic tears or that you have small stress fractures along the tibia.
If the pain is on the lateral anterior muscle (front outside) it is likely that the tibialis anterior is the muscle affected. If the pain is on the medial side (inside) of the tibia, then it is likely the soleus muscle that is affected.
Although wearing neoprene sleeves on the lower legs and certain taping methods can relieve some of the discomfort in the lower leg commonly referred to as "shin splints," the only real treatment for shin splints is rest and ice. Ibuprofen or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories can help reduce inflammation and speed up recovery. A good supplemental intake of calcium, Vitamin C, glucosamine, chondroiton, and MSM will ensure that your body has the materials it needs to repair itself.
Shin splints are usually used to describe the pain and discomfort associated with the tibialis anterior muscle being torn off of the tibia because of a strength imbalance between this muscle and the soleus and gastrocnemius. To recover, the athlete should rest and apply ice to the affected area of the shin in 20-30 minute segments as often as possible. The athlete may return to exercise after the area is no longer sensitive to pressure along the tibia, the athlete can perform lower leg stretches without discomfort, and a light jog is shown to produce no pain or discomfort. The recovery period will usually take 2-3 weeks, but this can vary greatly among athletes.
To prevent shin splints from reoccurring, or to prevent them from ever occurring in the first place, one should engage in an exercise program that targets strengthening the tibialis anterior directly. This short video shows a simple exercise that is very effective in preventing shin splints.

The first thing dat 1shud undrstnd is dat wen sumbdyz stabbed, he/she bleeds from d mouth coz the stomach, trachea(windpipe) or lungs been wounded/injured 4m inside. Such an injury is called as ''internal injury'' and d blood is cumin from d inner wall of d stomach, trachea or d lungs and therefore, d wound has2 heal from inside. If at all, the the alveolar sac of the lungs, bronchioles of the lungs have been extensively damaged, then the wound cannot b healed and therefore the bleeding cannot be stopped/treated. If it is due to mild slits/wounds2 the stomac, lung or foodpipe, it can b treated by a combination of drugs, antibiotics, surgery, etc. It also depends on how quickly d victim gets d medical help.
What causes central chest pain and tingling down the left arm?
Either angina or a pending heart attack.
How should a first aider treat a victim with a pelvis injury?
First of all, check the scene for any potential hazards to you, the patient or your team and take appropriate action to isolate or minimize the risk.
Once the safety of the scene has been established, check for the patient's level of consciousness and their Glasgow Coma Score (GCS). Note down the history of the scene, the time of onset and the mechanism of injury (MOI).
Call for an ambulance of medical backup. The patient will need to be transported to an emergency department.
Advise the patient not to move to prevent the condition from worsening or causing pain. Gently palpate the area for any signs of deformity, crepitus, protruding body parts and any abnormalities.
An analgesia such as methoxyflurane, entonox, morphine, ketamine or another suitable drug should be administered to minimize pain prior to immobilization.
If the ambulance is more than 30 minutes away, immobilize the patient by binding the legs and legs together (padded in between). This minimizes the patient's range of motion and will prevent any worsening of the condition.
What is the treatment for Small amounts of bleach ingestion?
Bleach is nasty stuff, and really calls for an ER visit, especially as it's horrendously hard to treat in the field. Even a little will cause damage. Bleach, being an alkaline corrosive, will certainly do damage to all the mucous membranes it touches (this includes the esophagus, mouth, stomach, etc.) until it neutralizes. Acid neutralizes bleach -- BUT -- the combination of acid and bleach causes an exothermic reaction (they get hot), and so we can now add chemical burns to the situation -- or better, don't do this. SO... # The most important thing to do is maintain the airway, so the patient can breath. This may require a trach or a crichothyrotomy may be required (beyond most first aid capability). # Do NOT incude emesis (vomiting). It'll burn on the way back up the same way it burned on the way down. # Do NOT give liquids -- they can induce emesis. # Do NOT give an acid solution -- remember that exotherm! The only treatment I know of is: * IF you know it's solid bleach and.... * IF you know the patient injested it less than 30 minutes ago (a lot less hopefullly). * THEN -- you can give them some water or milk, in order to wash any flecks left in the esophagus down to the stomach, which is marginally bettter prepared to handle this. If you know someone who drank a small amount of bleach and made it, tell them they're lucky and not to do it again. P.S. -- in hospitals, a psyche consult is often called in for this, depending on the age of the victim.
