Well it all depends. I line in Minnesota. The only time I dont fish is the period between "soft water fishing" and "ice fishing" and visa versa. The fishing can be "better" at different times of the year, but you can usually atleast catch a few fish on each trip. Prime times can be early spring when they are spawning, late fall, and early and late ice. It also epends on the species you are targeting. As far as actual "time" I prefer early morning, an hour before sunrise til 2-3 hours after can be great, as well as late evening, an hour before til a few hours after sunset are the main times I focus on depending on the species I am targeting. I use those methods when fishing for walleye and crappie. If I am pike or sunfish fishing I target tham all day long, as pike are roamers and sunfish are the easiest to find. The best fishing hook all depends on what type of bass fishing your doing. For bait fishing you need to look at the bait your using. For worms (nightcrawler/dillies) you shuold use a baitholder offset hook in a size 6 or8. if your using minnows your best bet would be anaberdeen light-wire hook in a size 6 or 8 again, depending on the size of the bait. Now fishing soft plastics you have a whole different story your best bet would be to go to a local fishing tackle shop (not Walmart you need to talk to someone who knows what their talking about). But here are a few hooks to consider. For fishing plastic worms/lizards: 4 inch worm 1/0-2/0 offset, 6/7 inch 3/0-4/0 offset, 10 inch 5/0 offset. Hope this helps. Not too sure I'd class them as rare ... they were a mass produced reel, made from 1968 until 1975 .. more than 270, 000 of them!

They can usually be picked up very easily via eBay etc. You MAY pay well for a mint, unused, boxed reel, though this would still be under £100 .. typically a model in good condition will sell for £30 - £50 depending on quality: a collector (rather than an angler) may pay more for something that is pristine.

I've tried fancy catfish baits on these devils, but honestly, up here in Washington, nothing works better than good old worms or nightcrawlers. Use a big hook: 4 or larger. That helps cut down on swallowed hooks. Fish deep (10 - 20 feet) and on the bottom, which has the added benefit of helping to keep other fish off your line. I use a small egg sinker above a swivel, to which is clipped a 1 to 2 foot leader to the hook. That lets me cast pretty effectively, but doesn't produce drag when the fish mouths the bait. They shy away from that.

They'll swallow a lot of hooks, so I like to have several of those hook-and-leader sets made up in advance, so I can just snip one off and fish on.

In my experience, bullheads often don't signal their presence at all, even after they've gobbed the hook. You start reeling in, and you've got dead weight on the line. You think it's a ball of weeds until the fish comes in sight of the dock, boat, or shore, at which time he wakes up and starts thrashing madly.

When the barometric pressure is high (usally above 30.15) the fishing is usually bad. When you have a falling pressure the fish are usually more aggresive at this time and this would be a favourable time to fish. Also when you have a steady pressure anywhere from 29.90-30.10 this is a good time to fish as well. This being said when the pressure is rising or holding steady above 30.15 you might as well hang it up and stay home with the wife. If the pressure is falling and the bad weather hasn't reached you yet, then as a good friend of mine Brad Paisley said once " I'm gonna miss her."

That should not interfere with it's function. Since they are fiberglass, you could plug it with bondo. If you mean the loop at the end where the line passes through, if something is not available from a fishing supply stor you can use wire or similar to fabricate one.
