I love it when I get maggots in my compost bin because they speed the decomposition of the organic materials. Its important however to move the bin far enough away from the house that there are no objectionable odors. If you use a compost accelerant it will speed up the decomposition without attracting flies which lay their eggs and hatch as maggots. you can get compost alive for green matter from gardensalive.com which will do this.
I would think that you could use any chemical such as bleach or something. You could probably use just a basic bug killer too. Or maybe even just some soap and water. Or you could squish them if you really wanted to.

It will depend on the dog, you'll find many people saying no with Labradors etc but we have a real problem with them in our area and our pug has been sick a lot :( they do have traditionally weak stomachs.
There's a fair bit if impractical advice on the 'net, my best efforts so far have been a clearing up spree before letting him out to pee in the morning (when the bugs tend to be around in force) or as and when I see them in the garden. Answer 2:First. Remove all fruit from the area or just stick it in the fridge. Take a banana peel and a gallon jug. Place the peel in the jug and most of the flies will join it, usually over night. For the ones in flight, I hit with a solution of dish soap and water in a spray bottle about 25% soap and 75% water. This makes their wings stick to their bodies and they fall to the ground.

Cover your fruit with a cloth or cover. It probably wont stop them coming but you can just spray them with bug spray.
answer 5 TRy putting about one inch of vinegar in the bottom of a glass, then take a piece of paper and roll it into a funnel shape the larger end being the same size as the top of the glass. place the funnel into the glass leaving the small end about an inch above the vinegar. the fruit flies will fly down the cone and into the glass, and will be trapped in the glass eventually falling into the vinegar to die. when you catch some compare them to a picture on the internet to be sure they are in fact fruit flies and not another species of filth fly. e.i ( phorid fly, moth fly, drain fly.
I find random dead flies in my house.... Can it be something in the air that is killing them?
A creature may have died in a hidden place, perhaps a mouse inside a wall or a bird in the attic, etc.; or you may have dropped a piece of food in a place you can't see; or you haven't taken the garbage out often enough. Flies are attracted by rotting food and flesh. They can smell it from long distances. If it were a long standing problem, I would guess that there are gaps around your windows, doors or just about any place around the dwelling.
Sewer flies are also called drain flies. To get rid of them you have to first clean the drain. Use a pipe brush to do this. Follow the cleaning by pouring some gel drain cleaner down the drain.
