Fuel and Engines

We commonly relate fuel and engines with gasoline. Other engines also run on natural gas such as propane and “bio-fuels” such as ethanol. The principle remains the same as the fuel induces internal combustion.

What does ELPTO TwoStroke mean?

Electric Start, Long Shaft, Power Trim, Oil Injection

Two Stoke means a two cycle engine. An engine that fires on each upstroke.

What causes a jet engine to ignite?

A Jet engine contains a series of turbines that accelerate the air that enters the engine. As the air is accelerated it is compressed to a higher density at which point the fuel is able to begin combustion at ambient temperatures. As the engine warms it becomes more efficient as the fuel is pee heated and the compressor is able to spool faster. At higher altitudes the engine becomes more efficient as the initial air density is lowered causing less resistance on the turbines to accelerate the air, thus allowing a higher spool rate with less fuel. Jet engines are very inefficient at sea level when compared to their efficiency at cruising altitudes.

Can a 95 Saturn sc1 engine fit in a 92 Saturn?

Yes, Engine itself will be just fine to put in a 92. but some considerations to consider would be the transmission type, manual or automatic. they may look like the same mount up but make no mistake, the systems do not match without modification. you also may want to check the motor mount locations on the sub frame. in some cases the holes for the bolts can be in different locations. also make sure the exhaust manifold will match up if you are swaping between the DOHC (SC2, SL2, SW2) and the SOHC (SC1, SL1, SW1). The exhaust flanges always match so if the manifold from the new engine is different from the old engine, use the manifold from the new engine.

Just a bored Saturn mechanic.

The 91s and 92s used different cranks, the CPS picks the signal off of a different spot than the new ones. The 92 computer would get wrong reading from a newer crankshaft.

Calculate the cubic capacity of a 6 cilynder engine with a bore of 85mm and astroke of 90mm?

no of cylinders = 6 bore = 85 mm =8.5cm
stroke = 90mm =9 cm

bore area = bore * bore * pi/ 4 (pi=3.14159)
volume of 1 cylinder = bore area * stroke
engine capacity = volume of 1 cylinder * no of cylinders

bore area = 8.5 * 8.5 * 3.14159/ 4
=56.745 square cm

volume of 1 cylinder= bore area * storke
=56.745*9

=510.7 cubic cm (cc)

engine capacity =volume of 1 cylinder * no of cylinders
=510.7 * 6

=3064.22 cc

Can you disconnect catalytic converter from your auto engine?

Yes, you can. Just keep in mind that in some places it is illegal to do so. Since the Catalytic Converter is there to reduce pollution, it's illegal to disconnect it, also it will result with your exhaust being louder.. which makes it more suspicious, and you'll end up being pulled over. Some people do it instead of buying an after market exhaust, cause all you do is disconnect it and it sounds like one.

What is the biggest engine ever put into a production car.?

The 11.2 liter V12 engine put into the mid 70's high end cadillacs is to my knowledge the largest engine ever put into a production model care.

as far as power goes, it basically sucks, not only in total output but also in horsepower per liter, which is a good measure of how good the engine is.

this total output also depends on the year. the first year the 11.2 was produced, it created 400 horsepower. by 1976, which was the final year the 11.2 was made, the total power for the huge engine had fallen to 190 horsepower.

sometimes size isn't everything. the bugatti veyron's 9.0 liter engine develops 1001 horsepower, and can do 0-60 in 2.4 seconds.

The 2008 Dodge Viper has a 8.4L V10.

The 2009 Wrightrider has a 12.6L V12 engine.

And the Legendary Lamborghini diablo street II has the record breaking 22.2L V32 engine.

What is the impact of running engine at idle for a long period of time?

vehicles with radiator fans on timer or thermo switch should have no problem, as long as it is idling reasonably. older cars with a large enough radiator with gear, chain or belt fan shouldn't fair as well, though would still be adequate. radically tuned vehicles and big block hot rods may have to keep moving to maintain the scrubbing effect the air has on the radiator fins to keep temperatures down. When heating and cooling causes rocks to erode, starting and stopping a motor causes wear - a taxi does more Kms in its life than the life of a normal workers vehicle before an engine rebuild is warranted. The impact of running a car at idle for some time is pollution, empty tank, pointless engine wear, and noise pollution.

How does quadrajet secondary jet air valve work?

As the accelerator is depressed with load on the engine: such as being in gear, engine speed will begin to increase. As the engine begins to require more air and fuel, the secondary air valve will begin to open. These valves are controlled by a choke pulloff vacuum canister which releases as vacuum in the intake drops. Then the suction of the engine will allow your air valves to open also causing fuel to be sucked into the engine through the secondaries. When these valves open, a cam that they are mounted to will lift the secondary metering rods higher out of the jets which allows fuel to pass more readily through the carburetor and into your engine. Cool sound!

What is onan engine 423 timing specs?

What is the reported manufacturers weight of the ONAN 250 HD GEN SET electrical generator?

How much oil do you put in your engine?

1.4astra54plate how much oil in the engine

Easy to find out. Park the vehicle on a level surface. Drain oil and replace filter. Add 4 quarts oil, start engine and run for 30 seconds, shut down and wait 30 minutes, check oil level and add as necessary to reach the full mark on the dipstick. You now know the capacity.

How does a 2 stroke motor work?

it runs faster than a 4stroke but use mixed gas in the to stroke

What do you mean by 3liter engines?

That would be the engine "size", 3000cc or 3000 cubic cm inside all the cylinders.

What engine oil do you use for a 307 hdi s 90?

ive been told its 15w* 40w that's what ive used but found out that castrol the best use the high milage one bit pricy but found to be a decent one but any oil really is good aslong as its for 307 but Garage told me its 15w*40w synthetic of fully synteic

1989 motorhome it has a lost of power up small grades and on flat land and it pops from the engine can anyone tell you what cause that?

My 1989 equipped with a 454 did the same thing. After removing the fuel tank from the thirty foot rig for the third time, I discovered that the fuel pump in the tank was not working. This rig has a mechanical fuel pump on the engine and a electric (pusher) fuel pump inside the tank. I traced the problem to a bad fuel pump relay. After replacing the relay this thing runs awsome! The relay on mine was just laying on top of the engine plugged into a five wire harness. Very visable after removing the "dog house."
