No gout is caused by uric acid.

If you have any sort of procedure that involves the destruction of tissue then the system has to get rid of the dead cells. These cells have purines which in turn creates uric acid. If you are predisposed to developing gout and are close to saturation point of uric acid in the blood then this could tip you over the edge.
