Grades and Grade Point Averages (GPA)

Grades are assigned through application of standardized measurements rated by in letters (A to D), a range (example 1 to 6), a percentage of total number correct (example 70%), or as the number from of a possible total (example 50 out of 50). Can you get into Wellesley with a 29 ACT and a 3.9 GPA?

It's not a shoe-in, but it's certainly plausible. It depends what the 3.9 GPA consists of - if most of courses are of the highest levels possible at your school, then your chances are better.

How do you calculate grade point averages?

Do it the same way you would calculate averages but a little different :

A=4

B=3

C=2

D=1

and

F=0

so you add up the grades you got depending on what those grades are and you calculate te sum by the number of classes you have

EXAMPLE:

an A,A,C,F,D,B =4+4+2+0+1+3 =14

14/6=2.333333...

Meaning your grade point average is 2.33

What does a 3.686 GPA mean in terms of grades?

What is a 2.650 gpa on a 4.0 scale letter grade?

It should be a B-.

If A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, and F=0, then it seems reasonable that these numerical values should be true:

A+ = 4.33

A = 4.00

A- = 3.67

B+ = 3.33

B = 3.00

B- = 2.67

C+ = 2.33

C = 2.00

C- = 1.67

D+= 1.33

D = 1.00

D- = 0.67

F = 0.00

What G.P.A do you need to skip a grade?

A lot depends on the state/district you are in, but often it has more to do with teacher recommendations and your abilities to pass the standardized tests for a grade up, rather than the GPA.

What letter grade is a 2.45 GPA equal to?
