Grades and Grade Point Averages (GPA)

Grades are assigned through application of standardized measurements rated by in letters (A to D), a range (example 1 to 6), a percentage of total number correct (example 70%), or as the number from of a possible total (example 50 out of 50). At predetermined set times through a school year, grades from subjects are averaged to give a Grade Point Average (GPA). The Cumulative Grade Point Average is the average of all grades over an educational life or specific for the total 4 years of high school.

Is a 3.34 GPA good for high school?

I'm currently in my Junior year of high school and as of right now I have a 3.00 GPA (9th & 10th grades & 1st quarter of 11th grade). I figured that if I make all A's for my Junior end-of-year grade then I can get a 3.34. I was wondering if this was a good GPA for high school. I am currently taking Honors Chemistry and AP English Writing Seminar (the only Honors or AP I am taking this year). Next year I plan on taking AP Biology, AP Psychology, AP Physics, AB Calculus (or AP Stat, I haven't decided yet), possibly AP Spanish (I hate language courses so, I don't know if I'm taking this) English 12, and some history course. Is that enough APs? As you may be able to tell I am extremely worried about getting into college. I really want to go to Vanderbilt or Duke, but I don't know if I will have the opportunity to go because of my grades. I do pretty well on the testing (SAT/PSAT) the only time that I took the actual SAT I was in 7th grade (with the TIP program for Duke) and got a 1590 (I don't know how good or bad that is...???) and have only taken the PSAT since then. The major thing that is holding me back is my GPA. With what I have shared with you, do I have a decent chance of getting into a good college like Vanderbilt or Duke??

To Dental students what GPA and dat score are needed to get into dental school and what schools have the lowest GPA and dat requirements?

All of this is dependent an the receiving institution, and their current admissions policies and regulations which do change from time to time. You would have to do an institutional review particular to specific colleges and universities. Remember, schools are not only looking at one or two admissions requirements, but they are looking at the individual as a whole. This is what makes dental schools so competitive. Read the following carefully and follow through on the link provided. It will take some research time, but if this is what you really want, you will spend the time and follow through.

You can obtain this information by going to www.collegeboard.com/splash/ and using the sites College MatchMaker search engine, or you can also click on the related links section (College Board) indicated below this answer box, which will take you directly to the site. You can research colleges and universities by name, or by programs of study, or by geographical location, size, or combinations of part or all of them etc. The site will provide you with a list of institutions based on your request. It will give you the schools background, accreditation, degree offerings, programs of study, entrance requirements, tuition and fees, room and board, athletic programs etc. and a link to each institutions official web page. Make sure the college or university has a regional accreditation (most important). Practice navigating this site. It will be well worth the time and effort.

Not with those stats alone, however those are usually a precursor to a good ACT score. A 30 will get you a full tuition scholarship, but beware the cost of living, and other expenses.

Can you be hired by Exxon Mobil or Shell Oil with a 3.0 GPA and many extracurricular activities?

As a chemical engineer, it is doubtful. My dad has worked for one of those companies for 30 years and could not even get me an interview (GPA~2.9).

How does the 4 point GPA system work and how do you change the 4 point GPA system to a numeric grade?

Essentially, the 4 point GPA reflects letter grades A through D. A 4.0 GPA is an 'A'. A 3.0 GPA is a 'B'. Grade points in between are pluses or minuses to the letter grade.

How do you calculate your GPA out of 100?

it depends what you are originally calculating out of. if your GPA is out of four, and lets say your GPA is 3.5 then you would set:

3.5/4 = y/100

then solve for y

cross multiply

3.5 x 100 = 4y

350/4=y

y=87.5

How high can a GPA be?

It depends on the system used. The highets GPA is the grade points assigned to the highest grade possible; this is usually A+, and the most common systems give either 4.00 or 9.00 for this grade, making these the highest GPAs for those systems.

Well most schools have a 4.0 grade scale but if you happen to be in honors then it is very much possiable to get a 5.0. Very unlikely though only because many people dont take all honor classes and if they do then the get that 5.0. Just noramal class gets a 4.0 for straight A's

How do you figure your GPA on a GED score?

In 1978-87 GED exams were scored similarly only they added a zero to this one. So if you scored the minimum back then 225 that = 2.25 GPA or in my case 226 = 2.26 ok but they are grading us on a curve so my question is on a scale of 20-80 or 200 - 400 for each of your 5 individual tests 50 or 500 is the median average which = 3.0? But yet if you score a 50 on all of the individual tests 50 × 5 = a score of 250 out of 400 which only = 2.5? Am I misunderstanding this? I know the higher the scores the lower the number of students obviously. I scored a 48 on Arts and Literature but I came in the 43rd Percentile so I'm wondering if I had scored 50 instead of 48 if I would have been in the 50th percentile or 49th? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. :)

What GPA and SAT scores are required by a college like the University of California berkely?

Have you tried going to the web page for the college you are looking at and seeing if they have the requirements for admission posted somewhere on the web page. more than 1660

I'm not sure if you just meant a larger, strong institution like UW, or UW in particular, but I know that UW admissions is a highly heuristic process, particularly based on your application essay. Weak students with a penchant for diversity and a willingness to learn are often accepted over boring, but academically strong students. Generally speaking, a 3.5GPA and an 1800+ SAT are solid, but your essay will likely mean more in the midst of the flood of "good" student applications they receive each quarter. Mostly based on numbers. especially your gpa. around 4.0 if not, higher.

What is the minimum GPA needed to get into Tampa University?

Assuming we're referring to The University of Tampa, it is anywhere between high 2.0s and 3.0s but every situation is different. Its a more wholistic deal.

What is the GPA needed to be accepted into Tulane University?

There's no set GPA...really, there isn't. Take it from someone who goes there! Some people here had straight A+s, others were A/B students. As long as you have solid grades and test scores, it's worth a shot. They'll look at your whole application, activities and recommendations included, before they make a decision. There's no magic formula or number to get in, so just try!

What is the student's average in a class if the student scores 74 87 68 63 76 on the last five exams and the teacher will drop the lowest grade to compute the average?

Ok, the teacher will remove the 63. Now to calculate the average, you do 74+87+68+76 which equals 305. Then you divide your answer 305, by the number of exams you are adding....so you have 4 exams to add....thus, 305/4= 76.25....therefore the average 76%

Its that simple to get the average of anything.

1. add the numbers

2. divide your answer by the # of stuff you added

3. and that gets you the average.

What colleges except a GPA of 3.5?

there is no set requirement for a GPA to get into college. You do need a minimum of 2.0, however most of these students have an extremely hard time getting accepted. The average college student had a high school GPA of 3.0-4.0. Anyone who falls in this range should be fine...as long as they have a solid SAT grade and are devoted to extracurricular activities.
