Who divided the empire into greek-speaking east and latin-speaking west?
The Empire of Rome, spoke primarily Greek in the major trading cities, because of the colonization of the Pheonicians (Greeks) many of Europe's Major cities were Greek Speaking. Barcelona, Lisbon, Marseillies, Paris, Rome, Napels, Venice, Athens, and Alexandria all had large Greek Speaking communities because it was the language of trade since the best ships and traders were Greeks.
After the death of Julius Caesar the the conversion of Rome from a Rpublic to an Empire, Augustus ordered the nation split to appease the growing battle in Rome for him or his competitor. The two then took their stance, Agustus gaining the West including Rome and the Antony gaining the East including wheat wealthy Egypt, Greece, and Turkey. The two regions were still one empire but under two differant Kings.
Antony was still pissed about not getting the biggest and best city of Rome, so he stopped the production of wheat and tansporting of it to Rome forcing the city to starve. Many claim this was the idea of Cleopatra VII his new bride. Eventually Augustus invaded Egypt and dethroned Marc Antony, both him and Cleopatra committed suicide. Originally Marc Antony killed himself by being tricked by Cleopatra, but Cleopatra killed herself days later for the guilt and honor of being the last of the Egyptian pharohs. It is rumored her son Caesarian (it was the first recorded C-Section) was killed by Augustus to completely wipe out the bloodline
Hundreds of years later, as the ROman Empire fell, Constantine split the nation into two again. By 356 AD Latin was predominantly spoken in the west, greek in the east. The capital of the Roman Empire moved from Rome which was sacked days later by barbarians, to its new site in modern dayTurkey but then Greece, Istanbul. Originally the city that stood was an ancient Greek city of Byzantium and Constantine rebuilt it and renamed it Constantinople. "City of COnstantine" Years later the West empire fell, barbarians destroyed the empire and the provinces separated into small isolated groups each influenced by other tribes. Gual was invaded by the Franks and language changed to a language we know as French. Spain and Portugal were invaded by the Goths and brought a Spanish/Portuguese dialect, and the Saxons and Normons invaded northern France and England giving us English. Italy remained mainly latin, with little new influenes but the cities separated and built up arms such as Naples, Venice, Milan, or Vatican. The East remained in tact for many more centuries known as the Byzantine Empire, the empire was the first Orthodox christian empire, comprising of the ancient eastern Roman Empire. By 1040 the Orthodox Church reclaimed much of Northern Italy, Eastern Europe, Southern Russia, Northern Africa and the Middle East under its domain.
Crusaders from the west and east left the empire struggling for money, especially after the loss of the Holy Land and the wealth brought on by the pilgrims to Jerusalem. In 1421, the region fell to the Ottoman Turks. After four hundred years of Turkish rule, the region was split up by Greek, Russian, English, and Austrian forces giving us the local geography today. COnstantinople was changed to Istanbul in 1919 after World War 1.

Mykonos Island in Greece. Is there a Jewelry store name Lapis Diamond Club?
Yes, there is a jewelry store named after the famous semi-precious stone - "LAPIS". I've recently bought a fantastic bracelet from there. Enjoy the gold shopping, Bests from me, ELLINA KRUZ
Yes, there is a Lapis Diamond Club in Mykonos and personally, I am NOT going
to buy anything from that store again. Last fall I purchased a brown diamond
ring for $36,500. Initially I was concerned because the stone didn't look
perfect, but I was reassured by and relied upon what the proprietor, Mr.
David Gourgourinis, said, namely that what I was seeing were minor inclusions
that are often seen in natural stones. Upon returning to the US I had the
ring appraised, for insurance purposes, by a certified gemologist. She
appraised the ring at $25,500, indicating that the "minor inclusions"
included a major structural fault that went through the whole length of the
diamond, in her opinion rendering the ring uninsureable. I was also advised by
her against wearing the ring on a daily basis. I contacted Mr. Gourgourinis
to apprise him of the situation and to tell him that I wanted to return the
ring. He said that he would call me back. He never did. Since then I have
made numerous attempts to contact Mr. Gourgourinis to try to return the ring
or to reach some other accommodation. After sending numerous emails and
making calls to both Greece and the US, to date I have received no response.
I now have a huge American Express bill and a ring that has been sitting in a
safe ever since I returned to the US. As a frequent cruiser, in the future I
intend to buy merchandise only from shops recommended by the cruise lines.
