Some of the best ways to bond with your guinea pig is to be the only one feeding your guinea pig, so eventually s/he'll recognise that you are its feeder, creating an immediate strong bond with the guinea pig! Also offer it special treats that it wouldn't normally get, like cheese or jam. Handeling your guinea pig will also help with the forming of this bond! Don't be too disapointed if your guinea pig forms a bond with one of your family members asguinea pigs have a mind of their own, and if you are offering them special foods, they will eventually go to you!

the term 'in coat' is used in the guinea pig fancy by those breeders who wish to show the animal in competition. If a long haired breed has had its coat trimmed by the owner or even if it has been chewed by another piggie, as sometimes happens, then that animal would not be eliglble to be shown in its breed category at a guinea pig show as the coat would be deemed spoiled by the judges who are looking for perfection. Guinea pig shows are much like a miniature crufts...and the owners take the standards very seriously. So one breeder may offer an animal for sale , but descibe it as not in coat... meaning, needs time and attention to bring up it up to show standard... nothing else. it certainly does NOT mean there is anything wrong with the piggie, or that it is bald!! The long haired varieties are not allowed to be cut or clipped in any way in top competition, and the owners of the top prize longhairs roll the coat around small papers in sections to keep it from being damaged, and out of the animals way... at the competition, the owner is given 5 minutes to removes the 'papers' and brush the coat ready to present them looking their glorious best. If the pig has weepy eyes, it may cause hair loss and redness around the eyes. It is also possible to develop fungal infections such as ringworm. Watch for itching or rubbing of the affected area. Check for parasites and other skin problems. Keep its enclose clean and do not use cedar shavings as bedding. A vet may need to be consulted to determine the cause and a treatment for your friend.

i had this problem too! i brought 2 big ones a few years ago and decided i wanted two other ones. what i did was put the 2 older ones on the grass and put the baby ones in a upside down washing basket. i put the baby ones under the washing basket so they could run around a bit and stick there noses through the holes. They were itching to get out so i let them and watched them how they go on. they are now like a little family and get on well. however it depends if you are lucky or not!!!

after 3 weeks with the mother the babies can be taken away from the mom. The male babies may not alway get along with the father. You can try it just keep an eye on them for the first few days. if htey fight you will want to separate them.

I have heard that they really like climbing, seesaws, and of course anything that is safe wood for them to chew. seesaws are always more fun to watch if you have at least 2 hamsters kept together but it is still GREAT fun for the hamster (try to get a wood one). They LOVE tunnels. toilet paper or paper towel tubes work great and as there is always a constant supply in most households you can replace them as the hamster has fun crawling through and rolling around and tearing it to bits. You can also buy plastic tunnels that you can put together in different ways and attach to the cage (if you have the right kind). These are great for your hamster but beware they might become a hide away and it is not good to have to pull all the tunnels apart to try and get your buddy out. also if you have a large hamster you definitely do you want them to get stuck in the tunnel! personally i prefer the toilet tubes.

they also love cardboard boxes (WARNING: NEVER LEAVE THEM ALONE IN A CARDBOARD BOX AS THEY CAN CHEW OUT FASTER THEN YOU THINK. ALSO IF THERE IS ANY OTHER PETS AROUND DOG OR CAT OR WHATEVER NEVER LEAVE YOUR HAMSTER ALONE YOU DO NOT WANT A DEAD HAMSTER)! I like to connect the together and make little houses and put ramps and make furniture and stuff out of cardboard but don't be offended if they do not like the couch or bed it took you half an hour to make :P. also if you are taping the tape is probably not good for them to chew on or eat because it might even be toxic or something so just always watch your hamster when he is in these houses. also beware of pea soaking through the bottom of the box and getting on your mom's nice clean carpet! lol hope this helps have fun with your hammy.

The only other advice that I have is if you are looking for a pet to have fun with don't get a dwarf hamster even though they are soooo cute. I got one and they are not nearly as much fun to play with and hold as a bigger hamster. If you have the money Black hamsters are specially breed to be friendly and social. Plus my friend had one and it is 3 years old and just starting to fade (if that is the right word choice). Otherwise you could just go to the pet store and ask to hold some different kinds. But again I strongly incourage you to find out as much as you can and buy the proper supplies before buying your hamster. This will insure that you both have the best time possible together and your hamster lives a long and healthy life.

woahhh, well i had a guinea pig and i got this handbook with it, and it said it could be a sign of sickness, especially if they face the corner. If it is a Metal cage, you should really consult a professional. Second Answer Don't worry my sister has a hamster and he did the same. They will stop eventually. But maybe the cage is to small? My sisters hamsters cage is quite big so really the size is irrelevent. Just keep checking on them, they'll be fine!

You should sell your guinea pig depending on alot of different things.... Whether it is a registered guinea pig, what type of guinea pig it is such as the more expensive breeds like peruvian, calic, crown etc. Or if your guinea pig is more of the uasull type such as the American long hair or the American short hair. Some times the German short hairs are uasull types in some states. If your guinea pig is a registered breed then you cann sell him/her for more than 40$ depending on the breed, If your guinea pig is a more expensive breed like the ones i have showed you above you can sell them with out being registered for between 30 to 40$ , If your guinea pig is one of the most common breeds you can sell them for 20 to 30$ , But always make sure you are putting your guinea pig in a good home :)
