What is easier a front walkover or a back walkover?
A back kick over(same as back-bend kick over) is where you go into a bridge (all 4
limbs on the ground) then pick one leg up and kick over. A back WALK over is a continuous motion from a stand where only 3 of you limbs ever touch the ground at the same time. I hope that helped!
Get on your knees and lean over to put the top of your head on the ground. Then put your palms flat at 90 on the ground at 90 degree angles at the elbow. This will be a tripod headstand (your 2 hand and head making up the tripod). While you are just getting started it is easier to put your knees on your elbows and get comfortable in this position. When you have found balance start lifting your legs up so they are in a direct line above your head. It is much more difficult to balance in this position so if you are just starting out practice against a wall! When you get tired of headstands, it is always a good idea to practice coming down slowly to build strength in your lower abdomen. Once you are comfortable balancing near a wall move to the center of a room and start playing around with your practice! Once you have developed the lower ab strength don't put your knees on your elbows anymore, practice piking up (going up with your legs straight). Have fun and make sure to be safe.

To be able to perform a roundoff it is necessary to be able to do a cartwheel. Next practice a cartwheel from a hurdle step, which means to use a small run and a hop into the "lunge" with one leg forward so the added speed makes the cartwheel rotate faster. The next step is to do a "push away" or 'snap down" cartwheel from the hurdle. The idea is to push off the ground with the arms so that the entire body is off the ground momentarily before the first foot touches the ground. Once a student can do this particular type of cartwheel then turning it into a roundoff is only a matter of finishing the cartwheel with the feet together. The hurdle, and snap down add enough extra time to bring the legs together and make the roundoff possible. A pointer on how to place the hands: Try to consistently place the hands on the ground one at a time and more or less in a straight line. If the fingers are pointed in the direction of where the skill began, this way it is possible for the gymnast to push from the hands as well as the arms, which makes a good amount of difference. Good luck.
To the Ancient Greeks, physical fitness was paramount, and all Greek cities had a gymnasia, a courtyard for jumping, running, and wrestling. As the Roman Empire ascended, Greek gymnastics gave way to military training. The Romans, for example, introduced the wooden horse. In 393 AD the Emperor Theodosius abolished the Olympic Games, which by then had become corrupt, and gymnastics, along with other sports declined. Later, Christianity, with its medieval belief in the base nature of the human body, had a deleterious effect on gymnastics. For centuries, gymnastics was all but forgotten. In the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, however, two pioneer physical educators - Johann Friedrich GutsMuth (1759 - 1839) and Friedrich Ludwig Jahn (1778 - 1852) - created exercises for boys and young men on apparatus they designed that ultimately led to what is considered modern gymnastics. In particular, Jahn crafted early models of the horizontal bar, the parallel bars (from a horizontal ladder with the rungs removed), and the vaulting horse. By the end of the nineteenth century, men's gymnastics competition was popular enough to be included in the first "modern" Olympic Games in 1896. However, from then on until the early 1950s, both national and international competitions involved a changing variety of exercises gathered under the rubric gymnastics that would seem strange to today's audiences: synchronized team floor calisthenics, rope climbing, high jumping, running, horizontal ladder, etc. During the 1920s, women organized and participated in gymnastics events, and the first women's Olympic competition - primitive, for it involved only synchronized calisthenics - was held at the 1928 Games in Amsterdam. By the 1954, Olympic Games apparatus and events for both men and women had been standardized in modern format, and uniform grading structures (including a point system from 1 to 10) had been agreed upon. At this time, Soviet gymnasts astounded the world with highly disciplined and difficult performances, setting a precedent that continues to inspire. The new medium of television helped publicize and initiate a modern age of gymnastics. Both men's and women's gymnastics now attract considerable international interest, and excellent gymnasts can be found on every continent. Nadia Comaneci received the first perfect score, at the 1976 Olympic Games held in Montreal, Canada. She was coached by the famous Romanian, Bela Karolyi. According to Sports Illustrated, Comaneci scored four of her perfect tens on the uneven bars, two on the balance beam and one in the floor exercise. Unfortunately, even with Nadia's perfect scores, the Romanians lost the gold medal to the Soviets. Nadia will always be remembered as "a fourteen year old, ponytailed little girl" who showed the world that perfection could be achieved. In 2006, a new points system was put into play. Instead of being marked 1 to 10, the gymnast's start value depends on the difficulty rating of the exercise routine. Also, the deductions became higher: before the new point system developed, the deduction for a fall was 0.5, and now it is 0.8. The motivation for a new point system was to decrease the chance of gymnasts getting a perfect score. The sport can include children as young as three years old and sometimes younger doing kindergym and children's gymnastics, recreational gymnasts of all ages, competitive gymnasts at varying levels of skill, as well as world class athletes.

Is a front tuck harder than a back tuck?
There is not a big difference. In a front flip, you do not have to tuck in your feet/calfs, however with the front tuck, your hands have to be wrapped around your feet and bottom part of your legs. So, a front tuck would be a bit easier for some people, and a front flip would be easier for other people.

Who is the first African American gymnast?
I could not find the first African American woman to actually run in the Olympics. But I did find the first African American woman, actually women, to make the USA Olympic team. Their names are Louise Stokes and Tydia Pickett. Stokes finished third in the 100 meter dash at the US Olympic trials in 1932 and was named to the squad as a member of the 4x100 meter relay team. According to what I read, she was replaced at the games and did not actually compete. I couldn't find any information about Tydia Pickett other than she and Louise Stokes made the 1932 US Olympic Team. The first African American woman to win a medal at the Olympics was Audrey Patterson who won bronze in the 200 meter dash at the 1948 Games in London. Alice Coachman was the first African American woman to win gold when she won the high jump event at the 1948 Games.
