How can you know if a hamster is a male or female?

When you examine the lower belly of the hamster you should be able to identify two openings. The one closest to the tail is the anal opening, and the one higher up is the sexual opening. There will be a greater distance between the two holes if it is a male than there will be if it is a female. Different breeds are slightly different. If it is a male, you may also notice a scent gland higher up on the tummy than the openings, and sometimes even a scrotal bulge near the tail.

Other

This works with almost all rodents, if you look under a male's tail you will see his testicles, which look like a little pink butt. A female does not have this. This only works on I adults. If it is a Syrian hamster don't touch them until they leave the nest or start exploring.

take it to a vet

check for balls. they will be large on the male

You will know trust me. Male hamsters have huge balls. I kid you not.

determine gender of your hamsters? Well, it's pretty easy to identify (as long as you know how) especially when they are sexually matured. (Easier to say I think because I did mixed up my hammys once).

Basically the male exhibits large, pronounced testicles and scrotal sack, and the anogenital distance is greater. The opposite is true for the female, as in most rodent species, where the anogenital distance is less than that if the male.

Hold tour hamster up and look at it's urine holes.if their closer together, your hamster is a female. If it is wider aprt then it is a male.

How do you speak to a hamster so it understands what you are saying?

Rabbits can get familiar with a person's voice, and they can also understand certain phrases. It's important to communicate with your rabbit as much as you can. A rabbit needs attention from either another rabbit, or from a human, rather than being left alone.

It depends on the species or breed of hamster. Syrian hamsters are strictly solitary. They will fight if they live in a cage together. Dwarf hamsters usually are best kept in pairs, so rarely they will fight, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

How do male hamsters attract a female hamster?

Female ferrets have seasons. And in those seasons, it's not really about the male "attracting" the female. It principally involves the male ferret leaping on the back of the female ferret, biting her neck so as to hold her in place, and consummating the "relationship".

How do you speak hamster language?

Since hamsters are not human, they will not understand what you are saying to them, and of course they will not respond, unless with a little squeaking. But you can talk to your hamster any way you want to. If you talk to your hamster, it will come to recognize your voice, which will increase your bond with your hamster. It may come to trust you more or enjoy it when you hold it more. Like any animal, they can sense tension, so they can tell the difference between when you are being friendly or you are a threat. Speaking in a soft, friendly, or gentle voice is the best way to go. Enjoy your hamster!

Will two roborovski hamster fight if put in the same cage?

all hamsters housed TOGETHER have the potential to fight, but u can minimize it:

1.) litter mates are the best, two sisters, or two brothers works the best! more than 2 and u can have more constant "HEAD OF THE HOUSE changes" meaning they will fight over whose in charge with EXAMPLE: brother C is in charge..... so what about brother A and brother B? those two will fight to determine their pecking order... and if any falls ill, that ranking order may be challenged and u get more fights..... best is 2! siblings is best

2.) i house 4 of dwarfs in colonies, but heres the thing, either buy food dishes (large enough for like everyone to SIT in the dish at the same time, with room for at least 1/2 more guests..... so in a group of 4? buy a dish that will sit at least 6-7 dwarfs in the dish so that no one hogs the dish and theres some space between them if they all decided to eat at the same time.... food and water and shelter are the priorities in SURVIVAL... everything else they can fight over with less, but those 3 are very crucial to their survival

*** lasagna dishes (1.5 cm deep, 8" across, and 3.5" down, makes for a nice 6 ham buffet dish, also food enough for more than the hamsters u have in the cage, so if u got 4 hamsters, food for 5 or 6 works best.... theres less rush to grab and stuff their cheeks cuz they worry they won't get enough.... i gen feed enough for 2 whole days DAILY, so they never worry and btw mine don't even hoard at all.... food for thought right? no hoarding?

3.) if u can buy one wheel per HAMSTER, PLUS 1, so a group of 4? have 4-5 wheels..... or if budget is an issue? at least put 2 in for a group of 4, and buy the next size up, so dwarfs can use the 6.5 but get them the 8" this will allow 2 to run same time, and place at opposite ends of your cage, so that they gotta run to either sides of the cages to check if its in use, this will reduce crowding at the base of one wheel

4.) if the hamsters do fight? always take the BULLY OUT FIRST, it sends a message to the bully (it takes away its power, cuz it feels powerful when it wins a fight) then take the victim out, and if u want THEN place back the bully ...... by doing it this way u won't be telling the bully that he won

*when putting the victim back in the tank/cage/bin whatever, take the bully out, place him in a holding cage (like a transport cage) scoop out most of the bedding, add fresh bedding, and then put the victim in, leave him/her in the newly cleaned cage for about 30 mins so that "victim becomes elevated in that its now his/her home" and then add the bully back opposite side of wherever your victim is currently at, so that they can sniff their way towards each other, it doesn't absolutely work, but it does work better than adding victim back into the tank that the bully is sitting and waiting for him/her to return.

They'll get depressed if lonely but they will fight as i have found out with mine found it dead yesterday night eaten by the other.

How long till you know your pregnant?

A pregnancy test can be taken from two weeks after you last had sex.

Typically even if you conceive on the day that you have sex it takes 6-10 days for a fertilized egg to implant itself before you're pregnant, and for hormones to reach a high enough level to be detectable. Otherwise you may notice bodily changes such as missing your next menstrual period.

Does a hamster make lots of mess?

Animals are not humans and being in an enclosed space there will be a mess. You, as the pet owner, should clean the cage every few days. If you leave the waste in the cage too long, you can endanger your pet. Ammonia is toxic to humans, so imagine what it can do to a much smaller animal. PetProductsByRoyal.com

How do hamsters get pregnant?

Roughly the same way we do. The female needs to mate (copulate) with a male hamster. To do this, put the male and female in a box together. Watch carefully and separate them if they start fighting. They will fight because they are solitary animals. After mating, return them to their cages. Then let the magic of pregnancy begin.

Do hamsters become happy?

They make poor pets because they do not seem to interact with their caregivers. However, they must feel love in their funny little world. I believe that if the mother has never given birth, the caregiver must remove the babies after birth because she will eat them. Remember, there is no right adn wrong in the animal kingdom.

Instinct reigns very strongly.

As a hamster owner I know that with proper socialization they can become attached to their owners. As for other hamsters, goldens are strictly solitary, but I had this one exception with two males that acted as a breeding pair. As with dwarves, they can live in bachelor/bachelorette groups with other dwarves of the same age. Instincts and urges do play a huge role in most of their interactions, but they are mammals, so they can make friends and feel higher emotions. Campell hamsters will actually live together in breeding pairs-as in, a male and female with life together harmoniously, and if one dies the other will fall into a depression like state. And then for my two male goldens, I was shocked to see two hamsters that are usually cutthroat have consensual intercourse, groom each other, and sleep in the same nest. So, long story short, hamsters do feel love, just not as strongly as humans. (p.s. mothers will eat their babies but only when they feel threatened or the baby is dead)

Can a hamster live in a cardboard box for a day?

Maybe it will die like in the middle of the night but I'm not sure, unless you punch some holes in the box and give its food, it might not die.

I supposed it could but it's more likely that by morning they will have chewed their way out of the box and gotten somewhere that you can't find them. They love to chew so that's like extending an invitation to them to chew their way out.
