What should guys wear to homecoming dance?

I'd suggest pants other than jeans and a button up shirt or a nice polo. For shoes I'd say pretty much whatever is your style and fits with the rest of the outfit. Also, if you have a date find out how much she is dressing up for it. If she's going really casual you could just wear normal clothes whereas if she's majorly dressing up you might want to consider nice pants, a long sleeved button up shirt (possibly with a tie) and dress shoes.

What is homecoming court?

Asked by Wiki User

The Homecoming Court is a representative group of students that, in a coeducational institution, consists of a King and Queen, and possibly Prince(s) and Princess(es). In a single-gender institution, the Homecoming Court will usually consist of only a King and Princes (for a male school) or a Queen and Princesses (for a female school), although some schools may choose to join with single-gender schools of the opposite gender to elect the Homecoming Court jointly.

Generally, the King and Queen are students completing their final years of study at their school (also called seniors), while the Princes and Princesses are underclassmen. In high school, 17- or 18-year-old students in their final year are represented by a King or Queen; in college, students who are completing their final year of study, usually between 21 and 23 years old.

Classmates traditionally nominate students who have done a lot to contribute to their school, then students vote for members of the Court from the nominees. Once the Homecoming Court candidates are announced, the entire student body votes for the Queen and King. The voting is often conducted by secret ballot, but other methods may also be used by certain schools.

Local rules determine when the Homecoming Queen and King are crowned. Sometimes, the big announcement comes at a pep rally, school assembly, or public ceremony one or more days before the game. Other schools crown their royalty at the Homecoming football game, a dance or other school event.

Often, the previous year's Queen and King are invited back to crown their successors. If they are absent for whatever reason, someone else - usually, another previous Queen or King, a popular teacher, or other designated person - will perform those duties. Usually, the Queen is crowned first, followed by the King. The crowning method also varies by school.

Homecoming court members who are not crowned king or queen are often called escorts or royalty . They are often expected to participate in the week's activities as well. At some schools, a Homecoming Prince/Princess, Duke/Duchess etc. (often underclassmen nominated by their classmates) are crowned along with the King and Queen; sometimes, middle school and junior high students may partake in the high school activities.

Is homecoming formal?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Moderately formal. It's not like prom; I wouldn't wear a big fluffy dress or a suit and tie, per se. But a nice dress with some cute shoes if you're a girl, or nice pants and shirt if you're a guy would be perfect. I always wore summer-y dresses to my homecoming, and so did everyone else. Well, the girls did, haha.

The Home Coming-A Short Story by Rabindranath Tagore,India(1861-1941)

Rabindranath Tagore was an educator, social reformer, poet, playwright, novelist and short story writer. His poetical collection Gitanjali was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. Home Coming is the tale of a 14 year old boy who was a nuisance to his mother, was sent away for studying and died there unloved, longing for his home.

Phatik Chakravarthi was a fourteen year old Bengali boy whose father died very early. He grew up lazy, wild and disobedient. His younger brother Makhan Chakravarthi was quiet, good and fond of reading. Phatik thought about doing new mischiefs each day. One day he and his retinue of boys pushed into the river a wooden log meant to be shaped as the mast of a boat. Makhan, objecting to this and sitting firmly on the log, was thrown to water along with the log. At home, when he was questioned about this, he beat not only his brother, but his mother also. It was then that his uncle from the far Calcutta City arrived. He agreed to take the boy along with him to Calcutta to be educated there. The boy was only glad to leave, but the mother was only half- relieved and half- sad.

Phatik's uncle had three sons of his own and his aunt did not like the new addition to the family. A fourteen year old boy will have his own problems too. He was fast growing up. He was neither a child nor a man. He had missed the meadow, mountain and river of his native village. Therefore it was no wonder he became a failure at school. He answered no questions, was beaten badly daily at school and ridiculed by all including his cousins. He grew impatient about returning to home and began asking always, when the holidays would come.

One day Phatik lost his lesson book and was scolded and abused much by his aunt. It was the last hurt to break him. On a rainy afternoon after school, feeling fever and headache, he sought shelter somewhere and did not return home. He did not want to trouble his aunt any more. Police help was sought the next day. They brought him home, shivering and fallen into a delirious state. He talked about things in his native village, asked his mother not to beat him anymore and called out fathom- marks which the steamer- sailors in his native village river did. He moved restlessly, his hands beating up and down. His condition seemed critical to the doctor and his mother in the village was sent for. When his mother arrived moaning and crying, and calling his names, he was nearing his eternal home which is Heaven. His last words were: Mother, the holidays have come.

The question is, how we treat our children. Children are the flowers of humanity. Yet, we do not see the grief in those tiny hearts. Upto four years, a child is said to be in the hands of the God, but since then they are the World's. A bit of love, a soft touch of solace or a tiny word of comfort would be enough for them, but we do not spare them. Millions of children are worn out for want of care, nursing, assistance. Tagore's was one of the first glances into the grief and sorrow of a little mind. Another of it's kind is Coventry Patmore's poem, Toys.

If you love the homecoming mum then rather than spending money - make her something yourself - it will mean more to her then a shop present because it has taken your time which shows you care.
