It depends on the language of your policy. If you have an HO-3 policy the leak should be covered under the policy. Some policies exclude water damage so you should have your agent review your policy for you before calling your insurance company.

Does homeowner insurance cover kitchen cabinets falling off the wall?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Homeowners insurance would cover repairs for the cabinets if they fell off the wall as a result of a covered peril on your policy such as Fire, wind, hail, etc.

If your cabinets fell off the wall because they were poorly installed or just old, then no, that would be a home maintenance issue.

Does your home insurance increase if you claim a kitchen fire?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Depends. If you have a spotless record, more than likely you will have the credits (discounts) from your policy removed. The policy doesn't really go up, you just loose your "Percentage Off the Retail".

Don't be fooled-- in other words, "yes." If you're used to paying [x], and now you're paying [x+100], then YES you're paying more. Credits are the agents' ways of giving you a discount for good behavior, but they do not continue giving those credits when you have an accident.

Does insurance cover smoke damage?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If it is the result of a fire, the homeowners insurance should definitely cover it. But if it is something like a fire in a chimney flue, maybe not. That is considered routine maintenance. If it isn't done a claim might not be valid. Perhaps you can find some information in your homeowners policy or contact your insurance provider.

If it's the result of a smoker living in the home, meaning you have nicotine and smoke stains from cigarette smoking, then no, that would not be covered.

It should be covered, no problem. There are many companies out there who specialize in taking care of smoke damage to furniture, clothing, etc.

If the smoke damage is from something sudden and accidental then yes it should be covered. If it's from cigarettes then no, it's not covered.

Has anyone heard of the Crane toilet tank breaking problem?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes. My parents had 2 out of the 3 Crane toilet tanks in our house break. One broke while we were gone for the weekend and it flooded our house because it kept trying to refill itself.

Crane recognized that there's a defect in the tanks from toilets from the mid 80s. However, they never did a recall on them. Instead they wait until the tank breaks and they'll replace the tank if you contact them.

Does homeowners insurance cover a hearing aid destroyed in a garbage disposal by accident?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Sorry but the loss of a hearing aid or any other item would not be covered unless specifically scheduled on an inland marine floater attached to the HO policy. Any claim must be due to a "covered cause" which includes items such as fire, windstorm, lightning, and many more. They also have to be sudden and accidental. Misplacing is not a covered cause.

Does the homeowner take pictures for the insurance company or does the insurance company take pictures?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

They take pictures of your house and it's additional structures along with entertainments such as a pool, jungle gym, trampoline, etc.. If you have animals on the premises they will usually take pics of them too.

They basically just wanna see that the home is occupied and note any hazards on the property.

Does homeowner insurance cover loss from electrical surge?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It will if you can find some damage to what ever it is that no longer works. If you can show the adjuster any fried wiring (even if your not sure and it might look singed) let them make that decision. Technically, fried wiring is fire and is a covered peril in all policies. Some companies like Universal Insurance will look for ways to get out from these types of claims, so whatch out and read the policy carefully. They may use excuses like, "the surge most originate within the home" or other fine print to suggest that the coverage is provided but have enought to deny a claim when it does arrive.

Is damage to a laptop computer covered by homeowners insurance?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Laptops covered under homeowners Insurance Policy

If the laptop is scheduled property on your homeowners policy it will naturally be covered. If you do not have scheduled contents coverage then there may be no coverage for it. A quick call to your insurance agent could get you the answer.

Answer

If the laptop is used for business purposes, there may be exclusions or limitations under your policy. Also, it must be damage by a "covered cause of loss" as described in your policy. If it is not used in business and was damaged by a covered cause as described in your policy, then coverage would likely be afforded as personal property, subject to your policy deductible and depreciation if you do not have "personal property replacement cost coverage."

You can also install a small pump that circulates the hot water constantly from the water heater to the bathroom. Either of these methods will give you hot water instantly. Does homeowners cover a broken television?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are only two types of TV's that you can drop: a TV that belongs to you, and one that does not belong to you.

Let's deal with the TV that does not belong to you first. Let's pretend you are helping your neighbor move their TV from one room to another. During the process you drop it. Your homeowners or renters insurance includes liability coverage that is usually phrased "Property Damage to Others". This property damage to others usually covers a maximum of $500. However, if your neighbor decides to hold you liable (i.e. take you to court) to replace the TV, the full value would be covered under the "Personal/Family Liability" coverage.

Now let us address your personal TV. A TV is personal property, so you'd have to look under the Personal Property Coverages and Exclusions section of your contract. Most likely, your personal property are covered for what's called "Named Perils". Named Perils are the things insurance companies NAME that you're covered for. "Dropping" isn't a Named Peril.

Your contents could also be covered for what's called "All Risks". This means that you're covered for ALL situations, minus the list of exclusions. The All Risks gives you more coverage. So dropping your TV would probably be covered, if you have the All Risks. Most policies do not have this type of coverage for the personal property.

Your best bet is to verify all of this with your agent, or your state department of insurance.

How do you find a water leak under a slab?

User Avatar

Acoustic ultrasound, trace gas detection and thermal imaging can all be used to find slab leaks. For larger leaks or thicker concrete, Ground penetrating radar, and electronic correlation technology can be used. Or, of course, you can just start making holes, and stick your head under the ground to listen for the leaks...

Does homeowner insurance cover water damage from toilets?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Generally, yes, BUT it depends on several things which you need to check out with your insurance agent and possibly an attorney: * Whether or not it is covered or excluded in your policy. * The insurance laws of your state. * The circumstances of the water from the toilet causing damage. Again, you need to discuss this with your insurance agent, and depending on his/her answers you may need to follow through with the other sources.
