Can Equine herpes virus effect humans?

How do you treat wind puffs?

Well Wind puffs are found in the fetlock/ankle area, there are two types of Wind Puff. The first is a filling in the joint capsule with synovial fluid, it will look round and about quarter sized it would be behind the cannon bone and just under the splint bone. The second one is a swelling in the flexor tendon sheath, between the suspensory ligament and the back of the leg. Many horses can develop tendon swelling after a particularly hard workout or just being put into work for the first time. It's not a reason to panic, but does require immediate attention. Stall rest for a day, some light hand walking, and lots of cold hosing and ice wraps are recommended. If swelling does not go down within 3 days you should call a equine vet to have the wind puff checked by ultrasound or X-Ray to see if it goes deeper than it appears. If that is the case the vet will likely give the horse some type of medicine and recommend stall rest and light hand walking for about a month.

Can i get funding to put my horse to sleep as i am a part time worker and don't have the funds?

No, typically you cannot get funds to do it, However you may be able to ask the equine vet to allow you to make payments for the procedure, though it is unlikely that they will allow this. If Euthanizing the horse by Phenobarbital is financially unfeasible, then you may have to consider getting someone to shoot the horse for you. The person who does this should know exactly what they are doing or have a equine veterinarians guidance during the event.

Why is light so fast?

It's not really very fast (it takes thousands of years to cross small pieces of the galaxy). The rest of us are just really slow. Actully, since it's an energy state instead of a physical state, it's a lot easier to move fast. Einstein's real question was, "If I'm sitting on a train that's traveling at the speed of light, and I look at my face in the mirror, what would I see?" The answer is that as things approach the speed of light, time slows down for them (that's his famous Theory of Relativity). So for anything traveling at the speed of light, time does not mean the same thing as it does to us. So, define "fast"

What is dorsopalmar balance?

Dorso-palmar balance refers to the "front to back" balance of the hoof. So, when you are looking at the sole of the foot, the dorsal edge is the toe, and the palmar edge is the back of the heels. A hoof with healthy dorso-palmar balance will have approximately 1/3 of the foot in front of the widest part of the hoof (really from the point of breakover to the widest part of the foot, not the very edge of the toe -- which should NOT be the point of breakover!), and 2/3 behind that point.

Does the amount of exercise affect the weight of the horse?

Yes the amount of exercise will affect a horses weight. If the horse is overweight it will slowly lose weight through exercise, just like humans. If the horse is a good weight and is being fed correctly then instead of weight lose you'll get muscle gain and the horse may go up in weight as muscle is heavier than fat.

Can horses eat berreis?

Horses can eat some types of berries, but they should not be fed in large amounts as they can cause digestive upsets. If you are uncertain about certain types of berries it would be best if you contacted a equine Veterinarian and asked them about it.

How much magnesium should you give a horse daily?

Based on limited equine studies, the requirement for maintenance has been estimated at 6.8 mg/lb (15 mg/kg) body wt.

And as you know/ hopefully know, with horse's in 'work' they generally need extra supplements or concentrates. And so a working horse requires 10-25% more magnesium for light to moderate exercise which is usually due to sweat losses.

Magnesium required for growth is not yet well established but can be estimated to about 0.07% of the total ration. Prepared concentrates with 'complete nutrition' usually contain a good amount of Magnesium (deficiencies are unlikely but can happen).

How big is human heart compared to the horse's heart?

What to do with a horse that has flounder?

The condition is called "founder." You need to have a vet examine the horse. In some cases, the animal can recover. I sincerely hope this is the case with your horse. This is a very serious condition and a Vet should always be contaced. It is very painful and the faster you can start treatment the better. It could determine if the horse will recover or not. Dont wait days to contact the vet... I am talking hours. I do agree with everything said above, definetly. But, also, there are some things that you can do on your own before the vet arrives. (Still make sure you call the vet- your horse's life could depend upon that). But, when my pony Ziggy foundered for the second time, the vet told us to have him stand with his foundering feet in a bucket of ice water. (If this is not possible, you can use snow from outside mixed in with water). Make sure he or she is in the bucket for at least an hour (unless the vert says otherwise). Make sure you stay with your horse as long as possible, and, if possible, stay with him all night. Give your horse hay in a hay net- if he eats, this is a good sign. Give your horse hay and water within his reach- he won't want to move. If your horse runs out of hay or water, good- his spirits are high enough to eat and drink, so he is in less pain. If he runs out, bring him some more hay or water. DO NOT FEED GRAIN OR TREATS OR GRASS TO A FOUNDERING HORSE!!!! IT COULD WORSEN HIS CONDITION OR EVEN KILL HIM!!!!

How do you prevent intrenal parisites on a horse?

To prevent internal parasites in horses, it's essential to implement a regular deworming schedule based on a veterinarian's recommendations, which may include fecal egg counts to tailor treatment. Maintaining good hygiene in the horse's living environment, such as regularly cleaning stalls and pastures, helps reduce parasite load. Additionally, rotating pastures and avoiding overgrazing can minimize exposure to parasites. Providing a balanced diet and ensuring overall health will also support the horse's immune system in combating infections.
