How was the first wristwatch invented?

The wristwatch was invented by Patek Philippe at the end of the 19th century. At the time, it was considered a woman's accessory. It was not until the beginning of the 20th century that the Brazilian inventor Alberto Santos-Dumont, who had difficulty checking the time while in his first aircraft (Dumont was working on the invention of the aeroplane), asked his friend Louis Cartier for a watch he could use more easily. Cartier gave him a leather-band wristwatch from which Dumont never separated. Being a popular figure in Paris, Cartier was soon able to sell these watches to other men. During the First World War, officers in all armies soon discovered that in battlefield situations, quickly glancing at a watch on their wrist was far more convenient than fumbling in their jacket pockets for an old-fashioned pocket watch. As the scale of battles increased, artillery and infantry officers were required to synchronize watches in order to conduct attacks at precise moments, whilst artillery officers were in need of a large number of accurate timekeepers for rangefinding and gunnery. Army contractors began to issue reliable, cheap, mass-produced wristwatches which were ideal for these purposes. When the war ended, demobilized European and American officers were allowed to keep their wristwatches, helping to popularize the items amongst middle-class Western civilian culture.

I recall seeing a statue of the inventor of the wristwatch in Nurnberg (Nuremberg) Germany. I saw this in 1957 and I seem to recall that the invention happened in the 17th century.

Can you write off the interest on a houseboat?

If it's your primary residence you might be able to get away with it, but you should talk to your tax consultant first. ---------------------------------------- Double check with your uncle (sam that is). Things change every year.... But I believe it goes like this....... It would follow the same guidlines as a vacation home. Since it is a fully self contained housing unit, I do not believe you would have any problem deducting interest. Same would go for a motorhome.

Does the person turning left at a stop sign always yield to the person going straight?

Assuming you mean "the vehicle going straight from the opposite direction": Yes, unless it is a four-way stop or you are crossing a thru-way with stop signs on each side. In these cases, the person who arrives and stops first will have the right of way over other stopped drivers, unless those drivers fail to stop or yield, in which case you would have an obligation to avoid a collision (yield) if you can do so safely. This is the "last clear chance" doctrine adopted in many states. Whoever had the last clear chance to avoid a collision is responsible for causing it.

What is the weight of a 21 foot pontoon boat?

The weight of a 21 foot pontoon boat can vary depending on the make, model, and features. However, a good rule of thumb is that a 21 foot pontoon boat will weigh between 2,000 and 2,500 pounds. This includes the weight of the boat itself, the pontoons, the motor, and any other accessories.

Here are a few examples of 21 foot pontoon boats and their weights:

Avalon GS Fish 21 Foot: 1,850 pounds

Bennington 218SL: 1,896 pounds

Sylvan Mirage 8525 Bar: 2,542 pounds

Aqua Patio AP 235 Sport 25: 2,800 pounds

Harris Grand Mariner 250: 3,526 pounds

If you are looking for the best inflatable pontoon boat for the money, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, you need to decide how many people you will be carrying. Pontoon boats can accommodate anywhere from 2 to 12 people, so you need to make sure you choose a boat that is large enough for your needs.

Second, you need to consider the features that are important to you. Some pontoon boats come with features like a built-in cooler, a stereo system, and a swim platform. If these features are important to you, you will need to be prepared to pay more for a boat that has them.

Finally, you need to decide what kind of budget you have. Pontoon boats can range in price from a few thousand dollars to tens of thousands of dollars. It is important to set a budget before you start shopping so that you do not overspend.

What are the different types of boat hulls?

Boat hulls are commonly made from wood, steel, aluminum or fiberglass. The choice of material is dependant on hull design, intended use, production facilities available and, to a lesser extent, cost.

------------------------------

In ancient times (and to this day in certain places), boats were made from bundles or reeds tied tightly together. Check out the boats used at Lake Titicaca or on the Nile delta.

Now if you are asking for hull shapes or types, that's a different question. See other QA in this catergory, or use wikepedia for a detailed (and complicated) answer.
