How do you get a pet rock?

Pet rocks are very hard to find. First you have to go and look for a smooth, intelligent-looking rock, then you have to go through a strict naming process. Rocky is not funny or smart, and if you name your rock Rocky, you are just telling it to run away. Yes, they do run away. So only if you want a pet that has to have extreme care, should you find a pet rock.

There are also the Pet Rocks that were sold in the 1970's. They were ordinary rocks with jiggly eyes. The pet was sold in a brown paste board animal carrier with ventilation holes in the side. The rock itself was nestled into a bed of straw. They can still occasionally be found on eBay or in retro toy stores.

How many flowers are in the poem April showers bring May flowers?

April Showers

April showers bring May flowers,

That is what they say.

But if all the showers turned to flowers,

We'd have quite a colourful day! There'd be bluebells and cockleshells,

Tulips red and green,

Daffodils and Chinese squill,

The brightest you've ever seen. You'd see tiger lilies and water lilies,

Carnations pink and blue,

Forget-me-not and small sundrop

Glistening with the dew. We'd have fireweed and milkweed

And many more different flowers.

Mexican star and shooting star,

Falling in the showers. And if all the showers turned to flowers

On that rainy April day,

Would all the flowers turn to showers

When did pigs start flying?

The genus Sus first took to the air around 3,500 BCE adopting complete air superiority due to their size and relative agility over other airborne creatures. Their ability to land on any terrain and voracious appetites decimated many an arable farmers crop.

Little was said about the additional airborne assault as their digested food was expelled at 5,000 ft.

There dominance of the skies continued until the Babylonians developed the first known ground to air missile. This was the demise of the aeronautical pigs, and they learnt fairly quickly that foraging on the ground was a lot safer than avoiding AA (or more historically known as AP).

If you look at a pig today, you will see that it has relatively large ears. This is a remnant of the early days when the ears were much larger and could generate enough lift.

Today, it is unlikely to see a flying pig as they prefer the comfort of a Boeing.

Bravo, Foxhounds! Excellent imagination!

Is there a 2008 day by day far side calendar?

I wrote Andrews McMeel, who publish Gary Larson's work and got this kind reply from Lyn Coleman, Calendar Division Coordinator. Thank you for your email regarding our Far Side calendars. We always appreciate feedback from readers! As you may know, Mr. Larson stopped creating cartoons for newspapers in 1994, although he did continue to allow them to be used in his fantastically funny calendars. Sadly, Mr. Larson has decided to no longer license calendars featuring The Far Side cartoons, thus his 2008 calendars will be his last.

The entire phrase is "purple monkey dishwasher" and means a distorted meaning or fact altered by the imperfect communication of the spoken word. (Related to the kids' game of "Chinese whispers" also known as "Telephone"- see related link) Example : "Bob said he had car trouble and the mechanic said he needed a new purple monkey dishwasher." (which is far from the original words of the mechanic)
