I have found, that trying to connect to a wireless signal under you is always sketchy. Some days it might work, some days it wont. Id buy a roll of twisted pair wire, buy a set of crimpers and some cat5 connectors and make a wire long enough to go from your room to her router. Then go shopping get yourself a new router, flash it and get some ddwrt onto it and now your working fine. About 150 dollars and maybe 2-3 hours work you will have a very good connection.
